i was just doing some research at the library and came across this. think it is interesting from the book "the story behind the word, by morton s. freeman" "affiliate - considering the literal meaning of affiliate, however, the one associating with a group or the small company is an adopted son, and the group or the acquiring company is the parent. In Latin, affiliatus (past participle of affiliare) means "adopted" (ad, "to," plus filius, "son"). Thus the group or the parent company, figuratively, has adopted a son." this is obviously where we also get the term "parent" company this is also why you should all strive to start your own company instead of working for "parents"!
