Hey guys, I'm wondering if someone could please clarify something for me when it comes to doing affiliate marketing with Google places.

Right now I'm looking at some fairly competitive keywords which I won't even consider implementing SEO on because it will be a waste of time with the competitiveness of the keywords. However, because of this I'm thinking a Google places listing would be optimal.

I have read a bit of information on Google places and affiliate marketing on BHW, which has raised a few questions for me, and I appreciate any clarification when it comes to using an address, could someone explain how this works?

I am unsure because Google places doesn't allow for a PO box address, you actually need a proper location. If I am wanting to rank a Google places for a a keyword that is not specific to my location then how can I go about sourcing a location, and if I do find the location then it will ultimately appear in the Google map, which if it's another business location could be really bad?

I guess I am not quite sure how to go about faking a Google places listing when it seems that things need to be fairly legitimate. It is not to say though that an affiliate website is not a legitimate business, but I do not know how to go about the address side of things.

Thanks for any help on this.

Go to a UPS store. They rent P.O. boxes with real street addresses.

If you need to create many multiple listings in the same city I would use a self storage center. That way you can simply use your storage unit address and add "suite 101", "suite 201", etc. for each address. For postcard verification all of the mail will go to the office and they will hold onto it for you.

you need an address at which you can receive their PIN code by postal mail. so you would have to buy/rent a box that will forward your mail to you. If that services address is already listed in places, you will also show up for the keywords that are already optimized for that address, so your "affiliate site" might show up for the keyword "mailbox rental"

Thanks for all the feedback guys. Would this be something you would recommend for implementing internationally? This seems like they may be a lot of costs involved, especially with the forwarding of mail internationally. Of course, this would be a thousands times cheaper than implementing SEO, but if the competitive keyword search term I am wanting a Google places listing to rank for, does not currently have a Google places within the search results, what are the chances of being able to optimize my listing enough for it to appear?

I haven't ran the numbers, but if your looking at being in every city around the world, the costs involved will run you at least $100 and upto $1000 per city for the mailbox, phone number, website, and seo costs.

I agree, the costs are pretty big for doing this.

Self storage is a good idea.

Thanks for the replies. Is affiliate marketing with Google places legitimate or is it a bit blackhat? Do you potentially run the risk of having your listing removed if Google sees that you are doing affiliate marketing or have they not caught on to this just yet in regards to knowing how to go about taking any action?

It's kind of hit or miss. I've seen some that are still up and running but G00gle is definitely now aware of the game and is attempting to thwart it.

I have a friend who could help you with this matter. He can create google places listings instantly, no need for phone and postcard verification. You can directly contact him through Skype ID: rexaniel306
