I'm trying to research keywords for a new niche, and I am having trouble... I remember you have to select "exact" match when looking at search terms, because that's the real picture of how many people are actually typing that in.

But Google recently updated their AdWords keyword tool, and now I can't find those options anywhere. What the hell happened to them? Now I see numbers, but I'm not sure if they are exact, broad, or phrase. Anyone know how to tell with the new interface?

PS: why does Google always come up with the most idiotic updates? First they fucked up the whole YouTube comment system, now this...

now enter them yourself in the required format , choose the second option under this
But I see same values with or without exact , phrase.
I think they have set exact as default for any term you enter .

Exact number as default now, and? You can never know the board time again as past!!

And please note: if a keyword now showing 1000 local searches, it includes all devices already, just my 2 cent.

    Hi,
Google reverted all quantities to Exact regardless of the match type you enter - part of their continued mission to make life difficult.
If you go to the Traffic Estimate tool and stick in a high CPC maximum you can proxy the result based on the number returned (daily impressions) but I would take that as directional only

In keyword planner, now you get exact match by default. I believe this give you a much better idea compared to the keywords tool. If you want to know how many searches are done globally then you'd have to select and add all countries.

The old one was very handy for 'suggesting' long-tails though using the phrase and broad search.
