Mods: Not sure if this should be here or in the lounge. Sorry if I posted wrong :)

I am looking someone that is providing real world SEO services that can offer me some advice on starting in the industry.

I've been having a go at this whole BH thing for about 8 months now on a part time basis with no professional SEO background in the real world. I would have to say I have had some success but have yet to crack it enough to make it viable to pay the mortgage, bills, etc. Whilst I am getting this up and running I am thinking of getting a real world consultancy business up and running.

I am thinking about the possibility of setting up some sort of face to face SEO outsourcing service, ie using my basic knowledge (plus a shit load more learning of up to the minute techlogies, etc) and designing solutions for local businesses that want to get a real web presence. I would take on what they need then outsource the actual building/designing of the solution. I would manage the process, test the final product, put my mark up on it then provide hosting and backend stuff.

Any ideas, advice would be much appreciated.

i think this niche is highly saturated, honestly. But good luck. I have no experience in this field, sorry. If i were to go in a whitehat business, i would go for something non related to IM. Why? because if you use the skills you learned competing in IM against some competitor in another niche, who have no idea about these things, you will blow them up.

Thanks Nick...maybe I could just stick to providing a basic prescence on the web over and above the old scan their brochure and make it into a website. Set up online ordering and the like. The SEO could just be the basic on site stuff and maybe some outsourced link building.

I didnt really explain myself very well as I suppose I dont really have it clear in my head yet. Im angling at deliverying a high quality, reasonably priced, product (sounds like a mission statement) with a face to face approach, giving those people a friendly face they can trust. Plus I will then stick on my hosting plan and get paid monthly. Work once - paid forever mmuhahahahah. Sorry lost myself there for a second.

Milligan , Don't give up so easily, Nicks right when he says that anyone with traditional IM skills will blow people away who are not in the traditional internet marketing field.

But there are some things you should know in the offline marketing world most people know jack shit and are full of misinformation, let me give you an example.

I run an offline presence where l live as it gets me out of the house and pays really well, l had a greek guy fly over from crete to have a meeting with a web designer in my area then he came to see me....the web designer had took £5000 off that day to design a website that would sell villas for sale......the web designer even told him he did not do marketing..... what an idiot and this designer said he was prepared to work with me ....no chance, l don't carry deadbeats.

The point l am making is the web designer did not know anything about keywords or PPC which is my business, so l charged for the consultation and ran the software for his holiday destination and found that there was no demand or not many searches at all, he still went a head with his project and lost money ,well the money he paid the designer.

So don't be put off so easily learn seo methods first then get together with someone and plan your approach or better still do a free invite to the local businesses and see what comes out of it. nicho
