Hi, I'm looking for some general advice from anyone who outsources the link building aspects of SEO. I've got a one year old domain that has a small core of users but organic search traffic has been extremely low. As a result I've purchased our first link building package from the marketplace on this forum.

We're targeting 3 main keywords (2 medium competition and 1 low competition) which we don't currently rank for at all so it's not going to be to difficult to improve on that. I'd expect movement on the SERPs but am realistic and obviously wouldn't expect to rank on page 1 of Google after 1 month.

My query is if you outsource and find a service/network that gets decent initial results do you just stick with them for a few months or mix and match with other services and suppliers?

If you have knowledge of SEO then you can hire VA who has experience in link building, this way you can get their service for long time.If you don't have knowledge in SEO, then it is better to buy SEO services completely, look for some experienced SEO, check their past history, check their feedback in forums or freelance sites and go with them if they have good positive rating.

Thanks for the response. For the link building aspect of SEO I'm happy to outsource using an SEO service. I guess what I was really driving at is if you use a backlinking service that will promote your site on their own private network how long will that private network serve your needs or make a difference to your SERPs. Maybe I'm wrong being a bit of a noob to SEO but I would have thought a private network will have a finite use e.g 6 months and then move on to using another private network or other SEO service with a different network. Is this the wrong mentality?

Yes its wrong mentally, if you move your links after a set amount of time all you are doing is moving whatever authority you currently have elsewhere, that could be higher it may be lower.

When link building you should always look at enhancing your links, adding to what you currently have, but remember its not just quantity its quality.

so in answer to your question, if you start to rank for a keyword and get it in a good position, start to vary the link types and especially the anchors, if you find a good network those links can possibly do you for the life of the site, if the network is compromised it can take your site down with it.

always vary your services so your eggs are not all in the same basket

Hi Kellyman appreciate the advice. So when you sign up for one of these link packages in the marketplace you're effectively signing up for the lifetime of the network as long as the keyword rankings deliver?

First you should do a background check as it one year old, Check if it ranks for any keyword ever if not try to analyze why? so times for some stupid reasons they dont show up in rankings ever and its hard to get them ranked again.

If you think site is ok after some check, fix all onpage checklist, yes thats good idea try one link package when you get results, try giving another package a change that can take you higher(all though keep the old package running if it give you good serps) and also try link building your self (guest blogging is the best self link building way)

Thanks harshareddy, we do rank for 1 keyword so I know we're not penalised. The simple reason we've not ranked is we've not been doing all the things you've just listed. Great content on the site but no particular efforts with regards to on-page optimisation or backlinking efforts, no surprise really.

I'll see how the outsourced link package goes over the next few months and mix it with our own SEO efforts.

I guess the above answers lead me to the question of how long should you expect a private network to last without getting penalised or downgraded, 6 months, 2 year, longer? I know it's probably like asking how long is a piece of string but....

Are you planning on dumping your site every 6 months? If not, then you need to stop thinking short term.
Work on a network you never need to leave - build feeder/buffer sites which you control and can cut ties with if ever there is a penalty, through link packages at them. If you are planning on hanging around don't point these unknown services that might get penalised at your money site.

If you learn to do it yourself you could save a lot and if not someone from the Philippines.
