Hi Guys, I was hoping to pick the brain of some of the more worldly members here on BHW. I own a site in the video games/technology niche that exists to sell a particular product. This site is ranking #1 on Google for all of it's 14 medium/high competitive keywords. It's in a great place and gets around 130-140 targeted visitors a day with a bounce rate of about 45% The site's pre-sell copy works really well and around 35% of those visitors are clicking through to the sales page I am an affiliate for. Each sale I make earns me $50 - $60. The conversion of the sales page for the affiliate product, however, is far from the best - around 0.5%. It is also the only product in the market so replacing it with another isn't an option. I've been thinking about using my site to start building a mailing list. I think the amount of targeted traffic, in this particular niche could be a nice list to build up and it would likely grow at a stable rate. I am actually in a position at the moment where I'm comfortable giving away a product that I own the rights to which is very similar and holds the same appeal to my visitors, instead of holding out for the few, odd affiliate sales that come through. So, my question to you guys is this: Would you persist with the current set-up, crossing your fingers that affiliate conversions increase or Would you give away the similar product as a giant serving of 'bait' to land (possibly) 5 - 10 (possibly more) of these gamers a day to start building a very specific technology/video games mailing list? I am just looking for the most effective way to move forward and after hearing the saying 'the money is in the list' more times that I can count, I figured that this might be a magnificent opportunity to start building my own. I appreciate you taking to the time out to respond with your thoughts. Thanks!
