    Hi,
Ive been wanting to get my sports handicapping site off the ground, i made a forum, and opened up one area specific to one sport and got that going. Im basically taking unique articles, posting them as stickys, and doing a little fake forum posting as well etc...

im wondering, instead of posting stickys and stuff, should i make like a main site filled with articles and stuff first and then focus on the forum, or is there not much difference in posting them as stickys...

    and any tips are welcomed.

Well that really depends on your overall goals and direction. But, I would recommend keeping the user focus/engagement on your forum rather than another website. This will help you build more authority for your forum over the long road. This should be your focus if you are looking for that engaging user experience in your forum. (keep users actively browsing your forum).

Thanks for your reply, well my goal is to get more people to this forum, as well as getting up higher in search engine rankings.

I should have been more specific, what i meant was posting these articles in terms of a website or a sticky in a forum...would that make any difference in terms of SEO keyword rankings etc...if not then i dont really need a main site and i can continue posting stickys, makes the forum look more active as well.

Yes of course it is going to help with organic search engine optimization. Because the more content you have on your website the more content you will be able to get crawled by the search engines and ultimately indexed/ranked for specific search phrases which would be your goal.

Edit (added): Just think. If the content never existed on your forum then you will never even have the chance to get that content indexed directly from your forum.

Heres another thought, now tell me what you think, I have a main page cms thing going on, and also have the forum. I write an article for the forum and then spin it for the main site...would that be a good idea?
