I came up with an idea for a site that I think has potential to make money, if not right now then like in the future. I won't go into all the details as I don't want to give my idea away but here is some information.

Google Adwords Tool shows the main keyword I would be targeting has low competition but global search results are only 3,600 and local 800 though this is likely to grow in the future. I can get an EMD with .net. The .com is taken but isn't being used for anything.

When putting "keyword" into google it has 2.5million hits but inurl:"keyword" is only 1,540, intitle:"keyword" 2,250 and both together is 6,000 results.

In terms of monetizing I've spoken to a 'supplier' and they pay 10% affiliate fee on any sales I send their way, minimum sale would be around $1,200. Could also stick adsense on the site and maybe have an amazon link on there too, there are some books that fit in with the websites topic.

Is this worth spending time on based on those facts and figures? If you need any more information you can ask.

    Hope someone can help.

    Thanks.

First, you need to look at allintitle:keyword because that's the most important aspect of keyword research.

I'd personally say that the keyword barely receives searches, so avoid it; however, if the keyword is a buying keyword and the conversions are very high, go for it.

If it's a general keyword, you'd be lucky to make a sale out of every 200 to 500 visitors.

allintitle:keyword is a new one on me but it's "9,850". How does allintitle differ from title:keyword?

Agreed with the post above. I think a big part of your decision should be based on if this keyword is a buying keyword or not. With those kind of numbers you'll want something with high conversion where people are searching directly to purchase the products being sold.

It's not really a buying keyword as such, people are likely to come looking for information but some may be looking to purchase.

Traffic to this site will likely pick up over the next few years, would that make you consider working on this project?

Allintitle means the website is specifically optimized for that KW. - which is a bad thing as it means more competition for you...and it is also a good thing as it means other people think the KW can bring $$$.

Also...When it is about SEO and google rankings follow this formula: Take whatever you think you'll make and subtract 70%! The 30% remaining is a game of luck and more payments as the idiots with Google are always trying to screw over the people that make the internet what it is! And internet is a fricking ADD machine...nothing more nothing less!

$1200 is too much plus with the low amount of search not alot of people might be interested in dropping $1200 right of the bat like that. Try creating your own product, like a ebook even if it costs you $400 do it, becuase then you can sell it at $40 and still make decent profit plus selling a unique ebook in your niche seems like a good way to go about things !

The $1200 sales price is not for a product, more a once in a lifetime experience. There's not much scope for an ebook in this niche I don't think. It's hard to explain without giving the idea / niche away.
