It's been a long time since I've been able to afford a new home entertainment system, so I'm pretty clueless as to how things work nowadays.

I'm planning on treating myself to a new flat screen smart TV next month, and want to hook it up to a decent sound system.

Basically I want to be able to put the TV's sound through my stereo so I can play YouTube videos etc through the TV, and have the videos sound play through the sound system.

Whats be best way of setting this up?

    Thanks.

Audio out from the TV to audio on the sound system, I would have thought...

HDMI cables to audio - whether they do two-way audio, I don't know.

I have a 60" LED Sharp and it's awesome. I've had it for about 3-4 years now. Can't remember exactly.

If you want badass sound (I still haven't done this), my audiophile crazy friends seem to think SONOS is the way to go.

If you want to use existing speakers, you'll need to check connections and make sure the TV you buy has the connections. Of course, there could be converters too. Everything is wireless now too.

Thanks chaps. So I guess it's still a case of plug the TV into an amplifier then and then connect your CD player, radio and speakers etc into the amp. Glad it's still relatively simple.

Been looking at a few amps, seen some which can connect to Spotify and stuff which is cool.

Really want to set up a Linux box really, go the whole hog and like you say archon use some WiFi to put speakers all around. Will just start with a 2.1 setup first though till I can afford some more.

A couple of years ago I looked into automating a your home and found the Linux distro MCE to be the best:

With smart cell/mobile phones the way they are now I wanna be able to work two jobs, run my IM stuff whilst at the 9-5 job, if you know what I mean. But smart phones (can't use a laptop at work) screens are too small for most Windows based apps, VNC and TeamViwer dont really cut it, but they can render web based tools really well. Bootstrap makes it really quick to have them looking nice on your cell.
