Why don't you do CPM banner ads? You can usually place 3 of them on the same page. Or, maybe you can start attracting advertisers so you can make up your own ad prices.

make it a private tracker and invite only. Force people to seed with ratio requirements. When it drops they may donate.

I have donated to the private site i am a member of. I imagine a lot of people do.

Build the community with forums etc.

I don't have any experience with this type of traffic, so keep in mind that this is all opinion for me. But I would probably try a CPA offer for something free... an email submit for maybe an iPad or something like that.

Like everyone said, you have tech savvy visitors, so it's a little hard to get them to convert since they could always just leave if you do something that pisses them off.

B/c of that, I would suggest following the tips that say to test everything on a small section first.

I was going to say a donation box you can get off Paypal... One of the torrent sites I get shows their widget and it is like 50-80 bucks a day. What do you see other sites doing? I'd try to replicate that... there has to be money in it there are a ton of torrent sites out there. I agree with the above though it is hard traffic to monetize because they are usually savvy enough not to pay for software, etc.

install ads from that comapny who pays for installing smiley central thing.

or look for some private torent sites, how they monetize by creating vip section, with seeding ratio or buying points.

Block the content with a simple CPA blocker, then they need to fill out a CPA offer to see whatever you have to offer.

Updated to reflect recent tips and ideas from you guys...

The way I see it here's a summary of feedback received thus far:

1. Bad traffic, give up
2. Create paid membership section (*Seconded)
3. CPA - No cost - Ie. fill out email address, etc. (*Seconded) (*Thirded)(*Again)(*Again)(*Again)
4. Content blockers (do not allow people to view site unless action is taken) (*Seconded)
5. PPC networks
6. CPM Cost per impression ads (*Seconded)
7. Crisp Ads recommendation
8. Erotic ads (*Voted down)
9. "Make money" ads (*Seconded)
10. Casinos
11. Pay-per-install - Smileys, Loudmo etc.
12. Donation box
---------------

Overall, it seems to me that the best option is to implement a CPA program for a free product. Basically, I would get paid every time a user signs up for something or gives an email address or cell phone number. etc.. The key is that the user does not have to pay for anything. Initially, I don't want to block the site with a CPA screen because I fear losing my tech savvy visitors who will go elsewhere, but I might be able to encourage action in other ways.

I think that a secondary monetization strategy could be CPM ads. I will need to investigate this further to see where I can get the highest returns. I'm still not sure what I'm going to implement. I anticipate making some decisions and implementing some changes over the Christmas break. Thanks again for all your input. You guys have had valuable insights.

"Thank you for using -sitename-! In order to keep things free for everyone, I only ask you take 30 seconds of your time to submit this (email, 1 page form, etc...) to keep the site up and running. We appreciate your contribution!"

Something like this would be a decent money generator on a site like that. The reason people download torrents is because they don't want to pay for something. You'll want some other forms of revenue from your torrent site as well, but this will convert well considering the user doesn't have to actually give anything to complete your offer besides some fake info.

Good luck!

This is a great idea for repeat visitors. You could also add a leaderboard to show who has made the most contributions. People love to be repped, and it will create competition and hopefully make people want more reps!

In addition to other monetization methods, you could also try to sell well designed piracy shirts like the pirate bay does.

Of course! You can't go wrong with pop ups or pop unders. I mean, it definitely will annoy your visitors for sure but whatever. You have to make money. This method will be perfect if you don't plan on having many repeat visitors.

From my experience the best monetization method for this kind of traffic is pay per install, I never tried loudmo but I worked a lot with pinball network (ex zango I think) they have good softwares bundled with commercial stuff (vlc for example), and normally it converts really well.

Hope that helps.

I really like the donation thing IF AND ONLY IF, there is also a leader board. Leader boards motivate people like you wouldn't believe. In the beginning I would recommend pretending that some people have donated already to make it look like people are donating and to create a spirirt of competition...

I would also recommend adding some PPI to the torrents, or upload some delayed popunders with your own torrents. I think that in and of itself would make more money than PPC or whatever...

PPI, like nemsis said, might work well, too, just make sure you use decent software like the aforementioned VLC player and not some weird program you would never use. And think about the interests of your target audience, something like VLC player is perfect for people who watch tons of ripped movies.

I strongly suggest you fake your referer if you want to avoid conflicts with your cpa network. Cause I can honestly tell you most don't welcome that traffic many of them will ban you if you push their offers with that traffic. Take it as a word of advice, wouldn't want you posting here when you get your account banned due to that traffic. Good luck and make sure you don't leave a lot of money on the table, get that paper bro!
