    Hi there,

This is my first post here so please be gentle. :)

I have created a torrent website similar to FlixFlux (but much better! :)) . It has been live for over a year, and the site is getting approx 3000 to 5000 unique visitors per day. I have invested over 1 month of my time working 8 hours per day and I think the site is awesome because it combines a lot of excellent features, like being able to watch the movie trailer, get IMDB info, etc. (I can send you a link but I don't really want to post it here right now. PM me if you like though.)

Right now the site is not making any money.

I did try adbrite, but the payouts were SO LOW (seriously, $0.01 per click oftentimes) that I just removed adbrite completely.

Adsense won't work because they don't allow adsense on torrent sites.

The traffic that I'm getting is mostly young males, who are what I call "freebie seekers"... meaning that they don't want to buy anything so I am not confident that selling affiliate products will work.

I am hesitant to do too many spammy popups and things because I am really proud of the site and I want it to get traction. I am starting to feel depressed because I don't know how to monetize it and I feel stuck.

I would really appreciate any feedback on this.

If you were in this situation (4000 unique visitors per day and no idea how to monetize them) what would you do?

Hate to break it to you, but it's kind of the worst kind of traffic. They're people who are savvy enough to be pirating stuff. They don't want to pay for anything and they're going to be hostile to any sort of advertising. At least you accomplished something though. Take what you learned and use it to move into something a little more profitable.

Im not expert but you could create a VIP section with the best torrents and either charge a small monthly fee or place a content locker on there with incentive offers, Or find a sutible offer on clickbank or a CPA offer related to downloads etc or take it a step further and budle loudmo or a another offer with a existing torrent client theres a few ways just test the water.

I believe that an incentivized CPA offer might work wonders! Maybe you could just offer only a part of the content on your site and ask your users to fill a simple email submit to access the full deal... This is a not too intrusive or disruptive solution and might work wonders with 3-5k uniques. HTH!

I'm not saying don't try a content blocker or anything, but try it on a very small amount of traffic. Unless you have the dumbest torrent users ever visiting you, they'll likely just get really pissed off and find another site.

There are shitty PPC networks where people are running those "Download Now" banners but those also piss people off. Maybe just not as much as a content blocker. Useless on repeat traffic though.

"Thank you for using -sitename-! In order to keep things free for everyone, I only ask you take 30 seconds of your time to submit this (email, 1 page form, etc...) to keep the site up and running. We appreciate your contribution!"

Something like this would be a decent money generator on a site like that. The reason people download torrents is because they don't want to pay for something. You'll want some other forms of revenue from your torrent site as well, but this will convert well considering the user doesn't have to actually give anything to complete your offer besides some fake info.

    Good luck!

If PPC isn't doing anything for you, then why not introduce a content locker on certain things? Things that are unique to your website such a specific content or specific torrents?

If not, then I would suggest CPM instead. You'd earn around about $5 per day - but it sure beats $0.01!...

Oh, and try CrispAds < TPB uses them....!

If I was you I would sign up to some CPA network find a good Free Stuff offer that would be appealing to your kind of audience. That way while they are looking for free stuff they will see more free stuff to get (like free ipod cpa) and will try to get 2 freebies at a time.
    If that made any sense.

Erotic could work. Make it so it's original and not the same generic banners with the same boops seen all over the net.

Another one is 'make money'. No cheesy and unbelievable stuff though.

Ads for price comparison sites for hardware. Some of these pay for traffic.

    And casions of course.

Out of all of those, make money might be your best bet.

Screw porn though. 100K actual porn visitors barely makes any money, these people could obviously just use torrents and the porn industry is really gung ho against piracy. They'll form lynch mobs if they see you're referring traffic.

Hell, a lot of the free porn sites are resorting to make money products and dick pills.

Wow, guys. I really appreciate all your feedback and ideas.

Lots of good ideas to investigate here. I've got to take it all in and digest everything that's been said before I take any action or choose a specific direction. So no updates from me here yet. :)

Re: PMs, I can't send PMs or respond to them yet until I've got 15 posts on this forum. (I'm sure I'll reach that by day's end today.)

Keep the ideas coming! Really, really appreciate your insights.

Edit: BruteBlue, thanks for your interest! Hmm, how can we connect?? I'm gonna answer a bunch of other posts to up my post number to 15 so I can respond to your PM.

The way I see it here's a summary of feedback received thus far:

    1. Bad traffic, give up
    2. Create paid membership section
    3. CPA - No cost - Ie. fill out email address, etc. (*Seconded) (*Thirded)
    4. Content blockers (do not allow people to view site unless action is taken) (*Seconded)
    5. PPC networks
    6. CPM Cost per impression ads
    7. Crisp Ads recommendation
    8. Erotic ads (*Voted down)
    9. "Make money" ads (*Seconded)
    10. Casinos

    ---------------

Here are my thoughts on each. Sorry if this is boring but it's helping me work through the ideas!!

    1. Bad traffic, give up - I have the same feeling but I'm so invested that I can't give up yet, not at least without implementing *something* to recoup a bit of cash!

    2. Create paid membership section - I don't think this will work with my traffic, because the traffic is smart and know they can get it for free elsewhere

    3. CPA - No cost - I really like the idea of CPA that doesn't require any cash by the user. I think this is worth exploring. I have always thought of CPA as tantamount to buying, but if I can find a good CPA that doesn't require money on the user's end then that'd be perfect. Any suggestions on this?

    5. PPC networks - Would be happy to do this if I could find a network that would accept my torrent site and pay at least $0.15 per click... Any suggestions??

    6. CPM Cost per impression ads - Would be happy to do this if I could find a network that would accept my torrent site and pay a reasonable amount (not sure what's reasonable??)... Any suggestions??

    7. Crisp Ads recommendation - Never heard of 'em, but I have now signed up. Will wait to see whether they accept me.

    8. Erotic ads - I am not against this but they'd have to be PPC and would have to pay around $0.15 per click. Does this exist?

    9. "Make money" ads - I am not against this but they'd have to be PPC and would have to pay around $0.15 per click. Or else they could be CPA if the action doesn't require money down. Does this exist?

    10. Casinos - Bring 'em on! If they want to advertise I'd be happy to have them. Again, best to have PPC or CPA that does not require money down.

Look for CPA programs that give out "free" technology like iPhones but in return ask you to "test" it. This should convert well for them.
