9 months ago I made a website with 50k page (automated content). So far Google has indexed 21k pages. Search Console does not show any errors.

Is this normal by Google and I should wait more? I'm thinking of adding some blog posts to the website. Like 10 blog posts with 1000 words.

Who has experience with big automated content websites?

For spam blog you don't need to watch google index (only watch traffic/income). If its more than 90 days old and have low traffic/income, than rebuild the website (maybe the keyword bad or the content suck).
If you want to build blog this way you need to testing keyword, article template (mimic real website), & the generated content.
What I do, testing all of them with 1k - 2k post/blog in hundred domain. If they past 90 days then increase the post, add backlink, add real article.
For you question, it depend on the earning. If it earn enough for you to pay renewal domain and monthly hosting, delete post that have no traffic, and add unique content to the post that have traffic. I see you use Search Console, see what keyword coming to your website than create post base on that type/niche keyword.

Thanks for your reply. Have you ever used indexing services for these websites? Was it helpful?

My website niche is zip codes, so almost all content is the same and every page has little text.

I think we have two issues here:

1. You have pages with little text. Google is a bit hesitant in indexing big sites with little text. I have a lot of autoblogs so I have similar thing happening for a few sites.

2. Not all content will be indexed in autoblogs. This is a common thing i think

For improvement i would suggest the following:

A. Try to apply search console every few days.
B. Try to have sitemap url at the menubar.
C. Update a few more posts.

Hope it helps :)
