My new company wants to set up an affiliate program selling our main product. Since I am the SEO guy they think I know all this stuff. So, I am looking for some pointers and if anyone knows of something published already.

Main areas of concern (Subject to change without notice)
    1) How to create Affiliate IDs for partners?
    2) How to keep track of those numbers?
    3) On site code needed?

Dont even worry about it. I did for a long time and then I just let Share-A-Sale take over. They will handle EVERYTHING for you. you just supply the text links, banners etc you want your people to use and YOU promote it. They will handle payment, tracking etc.

There are a bunch of programs out there that will supply you with all those areas. You just manages it with the payouts you want and how you want your affiliates to be paid. there is some work to be done. but you will have full control over it if you are interested in that. Or do like SEORasta said and let someone else control everything.

I think software is the way to go. I am willing to put in the effort to keep positive control.

Anny prefered software? Seems to be no shortage of vendors....

check out nats they are under too much media. just somewhere to start. and see what is out there. I would look around though and see that would be the best fit for your product and the features you are looking for. But nats seems to have what you posted.
