    Hi,
My question is this: I heard there's some way you can change hosts away from Wordpress.com to your own host so that you can use adsense (and other ads/monetization venues).

What I want to know is:
If for instance my domain is bluewidgets.wordpress.com and I by bluewidgets.com, is there a way to assure that all visitors to bluewidgets.wordpress.com will be redirected to bluewidgets.com (the example new domain I purchase)?

Obviously if you have PageRank on bluewidgets.wordpress.com and visitors there, when you go to bluewidgets.com, you will have to start all over again in the search engines.

I read a couple of weeks ago how it may be possible to do this. Basically I want to keep all the traffic and PR from my Wordpress.com domain but transfer it to a platform that enables me to monetize.

Thanks in advance for anyone's tips. +rep for good answers!

I don't think you can do a redirect from wordpress.com, you would have to add the redirecting code to the page and you can't do that due to obvious reasons.

But please do correct me if I'm wrong here....

Best advice I can give you is:

copy the content to your new blog and put up a notice on the one you have on wordpress.com, telling people you have moved to a new location...

    Home Page:
There is a redirection plugin for Wordpress that I use for something else that should work if you can use this plugin on their server...I host mine myself so I don't know if they will allow or not...but, give it a try...

you cant use plug ins on the wordpress server, possible security issues...
phr34k has the best answer, ide do what he said, but in addition,

i have some tips to help your transition with your readers.. put up a poll on you blog and allow comments, ask your readers if they would prefer to go to bluewidgets.com because its easier to access and its better for them aswell..
once you get their approval (almost certain)
set up you domain and blog, include a welcome post that welcomes them from wordpress/ask them if they like the improved look (you have more freedom now, make your blog more attractive, dont do any major changes)
also ask them to boomark the new blog/subscribe because you have a new feed now and the old one is dead.
on the second post, (if you want to) tell them your plans for improvement including more interactivity/videos/images and other things to get them hooked..

be sure to move your entire archive from the wordpress blog over to your new domain and delete all the posts from the wordpress blog. have a section named archives where people can access the old articles..

but we know that will give you a unique content boost and is not made for your readers :)

adding adsense/ppc straight away is fine, but if you want to add rented out banners then its better you wait a while and get more subscribers/rank/visitors before you rent the space out

    hope i helped :D
