Admin of Forum Where Users Trade Stolen Instagrams: Hacking Is ‘Not Our Problem’

Members of a forum where people trade stolen Instagram and other social media accounts react to Motherboard’s investigation.

Correction: This story originally misidentified and included a screenshot of a thread on OGUSERS dedicated to SIM swapping. The thread was actually advertising a service that allows someone who jut bought or traded for a username to secure it and make sure it doesn’t get claimed back by the original owner. Motherboard regrets the error.

It would be very hard to track it even if they want too.

You can't even trust the users on ogusers. There's a bunch of non-reputable users there who are just waiting to scam you.

im part of this forum mentioned and i am friends with some very successful users from there. the person interviewed was not the admin of ogusers, it has been confirmed to be an imposter.

Is @PolarPo a successful member on OGUSERS?

Any forum that does not protect it's membership to a certain degree is making a huge mistake in my opinion.

The reason there are restrictions on some things here is because it could cause a member to get jacked up by the authorities, not because the management could have issues.

That makes sense on several levels:

1) The forum cannot thrive without members and if the authorities end up taking the offenders to the pokey they lose members and forum interaction.

2) The forum gets a reputation as allowing scamming/law breaking/etc and thus attracts a person who is fine with that sort of thing and that is not sustainable (see#1).

3) The forum owners have to deal with subpoenas and what not... trust me on this that is a pain in the backside if you have to work for free to provide information to an authority.

The management is largely safe as there is almost no way to stop people from posting stupid stuff but the members are not protected if they are posting things that are outside the lines in terms of criminal or major civil infractions.

yeah because the fbi has better stuff to do then deal with social media accounts.

I don't get why people wont add 2-fa even if you explain it to them.

people too dumb man...

TWO STEPS TO MAKE SURE UR ACCOUNT WON'T BE HACKED.

Ready? Okay, take notes.

1) ADD 2FA. IDGAF what your excuse is, add the goddamn 2 factor authentication.

2) if your accunt is business, make sure your contact phone number is DIFFERENT from the linked phone number. #1 rookie mistake. So easy to get hacked if the two numbers are the same smh
