I just recently reached the #3 spot on google for a keyword that the adwords tool says it gets 2400 visitors per month. How accurate is the tool? So far 0 visitors.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

donĀ“t trust this tool, use it in combination with other keyword tools.

some of the results on google keyword tool do look suspect. how recently did you get there? how are you tracking your stats? also if you have been backlinking you would expect to at least get some referred traffic.

Theory is that with the 3 PPC slots they put above the SERPs you should get about a 26% click through rate which is conservative. I have a number of #1 listings and if I relate my actual visits from Google back to the traffic estimation from adwords tool then I am actually getting a 3% CTR - - - reading between the lines, I believe Google massively over inflates the figures in its tool because 3% CTR from #1 is just bull!

I got there yesterday, and I am tracking my stats with statcounter.

According to free wordtracker tool there is 0 traffic to that phrase.

How could google say there is 2400 searches per month and wordtracker say there is 0?

I dont see the reason to mislead.

did you use exact match in the googs tool?
Wortracker estimates the traffic from the number of times a word or phrase appears in their database, which again is based on what and where they trawl to fill that database.

i have been following this and am beginning to think this number is generated from across their entire advertising network and not just the searches entered on the main google search page - its just a hunch and havent got any hard evidence.... YET!

if this is the case it will cause significantly differences in traffic coming through on your organic serps...

It is fairly accurate. I think it just means total searches. That doesn't mean all of those people will click on your link.

Google is out to make money from Adwords... I don't think they will provide that accurate a tool for SEO keyword research...

I rank #4-5 (varies all the time) on the google for the keyword with google keyword tool estimated traffic of 27,000 in Feb. My traffic for that keyword from google is 50 for Feb. You guess how accurate this tool is.

You should also check the previous month's searches as some phrases tend to be seasonal. Purchase Micro Niche Finder as you will get a graph of searches from the last 12 months. For better results throw in a combination of suggested searches and make sure you optimize your website.

Look also for the previous searches for that keyword, the whole year, use google trends.

Another thing you could try is to take the keyword list that you get from the AdW0rds External tool and plug them into the Traffic Estimat0r Sandb0x:

    Code:
    https://adwords.google.com/select/TrafficEstimatorSandbox
This tool is for estimating clicks on PPC ads, but you can use it to get a better idea of how much traffic is available for your keywords. If you find that not many people are clicking on ads (look at the Estimated Clicks/Day) for certain keywords, then you may not get much organic traffic from those keywords.

Dealhunter, I'm pretty sure that Market Samurai uses the adwords keyword tool for their keywords, too. So they won't be anymore accurate.
    btw, my first post.
