LISBON, May 20 (Xinhua) -- For the second time in the clubs history, Academica won the Portuguese Cup. In the final match, the club that struggled to stay in the Portuguese top league, defeated Sporting by 1-0. Academica was in the team's fifth Cup final, having won only the first edition of the competition in 1939. Sporting went into the match having 15 Cups in its history. For Sporting, it was the last opportunity to conquer a trophy, in a year which the team invested 15 million euros in players. Sporting started the match unfocused and paid for it. In the 3rd minute, in the first attack move by Academica, Marinho, the shortest player in the pitch, with only 1.66 meters, scored with a header. Sporting was playing slowly, with no objectivity. The first defense Academica's goalkeeper had to make was in the 45th minute. In the second half, Sporting took more risks trying to at least even the score. In the first minutes, twice the Academica center- forward Edinho lost goal opportunities isolated in front of the goalkeeper. Sporting took control of the match and on the last 15 minutes Academica didn't have any effective attacks.
