INTRO - Many experts say that SEO is now especially a matter of building Authority Sites. The are tons of criteria that Google use to determine if a site has a certain level of authority. One of them is checking if there are some pages that are considered required: About us, Contact us, Privacy Policy, Terms of use, etc.

MY QUESTION - When I add Privacy Policy and Terms of Use pages to my sites, I use standard wording that has been used in many other websites, so I have to NO-INDEX these pages to not be penalized for duplicated content. If I don't NO-INDEX them, I'm using duplicated content. But if I NO-INDEX them and Google cannot crawl them, do they still count as a sign of authority? Is the presence of the link to these pages in the homepage enough for Google?

IN A COUPLE OF DAYS, hoping that the question is resolved, I will add reputation to the best 2 answerers

Google still crawls noindex pages. After all, they need to crawl it to see the noidex tag. It just doesn't get indexed in the SERPS.

Since Google will then know not to rank it anyway, whether it's duplicate content or not becomes irrelevant.

I don't think that you should be no indexing those pages at all. They are not duplicate content. They would be if you had the same content on YOUR site multiple places. The web is full of syndicated content that is being displayed by hundreds and thousands of sites. They, including sites as big as Yahoo, are not penalized for picking up feeds from Reuters, AP and many others.

Why would they penalize you for this? Makes no sense at all. Huge numbers of Wordpress sites use standard plugins to generate privacy policies. So everyone of those sites would be penalized? No possible way.

Exactly but the op says he was no-indexing them, it would not make a lot of sense if they penalized for something like that.

I don't think it makes sense any way OP. There is no point of No-index those pages to be honest. With those pages indexed, you still should be doing just fine.
