Hey guys, I'm earning around 5k < a month on CJ and this is the Tax Certification I have chosen: IRS Form W-8BEN

Will I need to pay tax on this money in Australia? As it is already taking tax out of my money.. Just wondering if I need to pay tax in the US and Australia. Or just the US.

Thanks in advance. :)

I'm pretty sure you have to pay tax only in country which you are a resident in

So CJ taking money out of my payments is pointless? Or will the US give the money to Australia? I'm a little confused.

US ain't gonna give away your tax money, once you pay, you can forget that. I believe you can tell CJ, that you aren't from US and they will give you some kind of form, which will excempt you from US taxes. You'll still have to pay them in your country.

May be difficult trying to get that money back. It is your money though.

I think I'll contact CJ about this then. Thanks guys.

R u a US citizen ?

I have heard US citizen should pay tax to USA and no matter where they go... if even they go to mars they need to pay tax. ( correct me if I am wrong )

Those forms is only for CJ, they dont want to pay tax on the money you have earned so they need those papers to show to IRS

About the Australia, You have your own tax rules and you should pay according to Australia law

If you are a us citizen and earn income, you always have to file a return. If you're a resident of another country for 330+ days of the year, you can exclude the foreign earned income from your us taxes. google irs and p54 also irs f673

They should give a 1099 or W2, or at least something saying how much they withheld. Should be able to file a us tax return and they should refund your money

For the OP, look at irs f673 - CJ might need that. If you're an Australian resident, you'd probably fill out the bona fide resident portion.

Note, IANA tax attorney or lawyer :)

I was born and live in Australia.

So my question is, do I need to pay tax in the US at all?

And how do I do I go about getting Australian tax taken out of the money I earn online?
