it'd be nice if the community could axe threads.

If so many people vote a thread down, the thread is moved to an archive.

You do realize every Troll's opinion would rule the forum, but nice try.

It would probably get trolled, the power of votes would at least have to be connected to reputation system but that's gone now and even then it wouldn't be 100% reliable.

There are too many trolls, such a thing would ruin the forum.

Agreed. The system would get abused.

Make friends with the right mod and you'll only need one vote.

The mods already do that, there are enough mods to moderate the forum...

theoretically, there's already a system in place for thread-quality to be self-regulated. the useful threads get bumped more and thus stay at the top, while the shitty threads don't get bumped and sink to the bottom. this is the way it's "supposed" to work.

every time somebody posts in a thread, it's essentially a vote for "yes, i want this thread to continue to exist", and vice versa.

now, if the problem is that - people are repeatedly bumping the "shitty" threads back to the top, then that kind of also means that an upvote/downvote system would be defeated in the same way, right? :)
