Hi Oscar. I don't really have with authority sites, about a year ago I had a journal with micro niche sites and adsense, basically target low competition kw's, and seo them. It wasn't that hard to rank them however turning a couple of subniches into a bigger website and become an authority is much harder and more time consuming, and therefore I moved to other things (quick money) after also realizing how much time I lose with this instead of getting into something bigger or doing other methods which bring more cash. It's not a bad idea, actually I can guarantee most of the people here invest in some way or another into a big website. Think of it like your child, you do some quick money methods and eventually you have an idea which you want to grow big. You probably will want to invest everything into it and make it grow bigger and bigger.
All I can honestly say regarding SEO is that it's like a pain in the ass. I mean the majority of people who are targeting low comp EMD's and rank them and so on, probably are learning the ropes. Which is not a bad thing, but you lose A LOT OF TIME.
If you want to go this route with small websites and stuff, the best idea is to invest money and do it big. I mean 500 small niches and so on. But if you have the money to grow such a thing it's simply better to focus on just one site. Of course this is just my opinion. SEO can be really profitable if you know what you are doing + have the money for it (time/money effective) + outsource as much as you can.

Do you have experience with authority sites, what would be a ballpark figure for a low competition niche?
Thanks
