Could really be helpful for all of us. It really has my creative juices flowing.

I'm sure you guys all know of Billy Mays, the most famous pitchman. He has a show on the Discovery Channel w/ another pitchman called "Pitchmen". They find people w/ inventions and simply pitch it.

It really got me thinking, and I think there's some helpful tips in it for you. This is episode 1.

The GPS Pal I thought was a horrible invention. No way I'd buy that, but I thought the pitch for ImpactGel was perfectly done! Really, would you want to buy a shoe sole that has so much support that you can ... well, I won't give away the episode. Here it is.

i'm watching "As Seen on TV" on CNBC right now with Billy Mays and other products like the Sham Wow!, the Snuggie, Ginsu knives, Chia Pet (now Chia Obama which is the most ridiculous thing I've ever seen and may backfire on the company), the Clapper (clap on, clap off) and all kinds of other b.s. products that sell hugely, in the billions of dollars. these are the ultimate offline blackhat methods.

check 'em out. CNBC, 5-17-09, 10:00PM PST.

(I tried finding a working streaming link but it looks like Hulu took it down for some reason). If someone finds it please post it here.

No, these are already established products and pitchmen that are promoted on informercials here in the U.S. Most of the products are overhyped by charasmatic salesmen via clever informative commercials (infomercials) and don't perform as advertised. The companies make a lot of money on shipping and handling charges and/or continuity programs like the Acai berry free trials that end up costing the customer a lot of money if they don't know to cancel (the tv program I mentioned above doesn't mention continuity).

can't help but think of the old saturday night live sketches for the bassomatic!

as for pitchmen, ron popeil was THE MAN long before Billy Mays came along. he pretty much created the market for selling products on tv (ronco pocket fisherman, etc.. he was ronco.)

just found my man Vince with Sham Wow! and the Slap Chop got busted back in March for a hotel room altercation with a $1000 hooker who bit his tongue and wouldn't let go when he went to kiss her:

Here are her mugshots from previous arrests:

    Does she look worth $1000?

I guess Vince won't be slapping his chops again anytime soon.

Yeah they interviewed both Ron and Billy. Ron sold his company a few years ago for $55 million. Billy's company (which I don't think he owned, but maybe he had an equity stake in it) recently sold for $360 million.
