I have a basic FB page for a blog i recently started, and ive never run fb ads before.

It had 100 likes, 70 from friends, 30 from random/organic (been about 6-7 months)

I ran a $5 fb ad (24 hrs) which targeted US people who liked a specific keyword on fb
FB predicted it would give me 7-12 likes, and i ended up earning 3 likes.

I ran the same $5 ad targeting India, same keyword, same age etc.
FB predicted it would give me 35-45 likes, and i ended up earning 466 likes in the 24 hours i ran the ad.

    A few questions:
    1) why was FB so off? i understand being off about US market (can be fickle), but how did i get so many for India?
    2) should i be nervous? ppl always say ppl from india are spammers. but these are real ppl and they clicked like on their own volition. but could these likes harm my page in any way?
2b) i guess it comes down to: will these ppl engage with my fb content. if not, then im fucked, right? and if yes, then ive just discovered a great pipeline.

I plan to post new fb content on Tuesday, so ill find out then, but happy to hear any thoughts/guidance from ppl with more fb ad experience.

Third world likes are cheap, like third world traffic.

If you post something interesting or appeals to worldwide audience (recipes, humour) you'll see engagements. Cannot say the same if it's a burger store located specifically in the US.

it can certainly appeal to worldwide audiences

    but color me skeptical

i knew it would be cheap (expected 30-40 likes, but not 466!!!

dont worry about fb likes. you can get more likes , there could be 2 reasons..

    1. In my experience if you are running ads for india country with same budget , your per like price goes down due to country you are targeting, as everyone know most of time tier 1 countries get more cpc than other countries, so when you run usa country campaign you might will have more competition compare to india geo.

    2. second thing is, even though you stated you are using same demographics but may be you have used different ad copy (picture ) which is getting more ctr and response too...that will reduce price and increase fb engagement, which ultimately results in more fb likes.

and last thing dont worry about indian traffic, my friend fake or spam likes comes from every country even fb do it themself.
you can do this experiment yourself, even though you will see lot of likes on your page still people will not respond , i am sure lot of fb marketer here will agree with me that fb gives some fake profile likes themself .

so over all fb likes are not going to hurt your page in any way.
