    Hi all,

Like many new timers here, i have been following many Journeys here on BHW gradually building up that motivation to get my ass into gear and start some projects of my own.

Over the last 2 months i have been keyword researching. By this i mean i have been constantly brainstorming keyword ideas, and when that light bulb goes off in my head i would check the stats of that keyword in Google Keyword Planner and Keyword Revealer.

I came across a keyword with a monthly US search of 22,000 and KWR competition ranking of 14. In addition to this alot of the the Long Tail Keywords and relating Keywords were at a search volum of between 2,900 and 14,000 a month with competition difficult of between 21 and 36. Because of this, i thought i may have landed on a small gold mine and decided to act on it. *note that i always followed up the keyword research from KWR with Google Keword Planner to confirm. The sites that were rank in the top ten had a DA of 20-34 (i assumed this was pretty shite, am i correct?)

The website is a blog/magazine style site providing information regarding my topic area (note i said topic rather than niche)

What i have done and spent so far...

    1. Bought both the .com and .co.uk domains with privacy for 2 years! using godaddy (had a discount code) - £20

    2. Installed WP onto my existing godaddy hosting (i have this from another business i run) - £0

    3. Personally wrote 1 x 4,000 word article and 3 x 750 word articles targeting different Long tail Keywords related to my topic. Uploaded these to the site and got it into basic shape (design wise). Still needs a lot of desing work, but i am more focused on getting content uploaded in its rough format then i will pretty up the site as i go along.

    4. Used Yoast SEO plugin to tidy up my content. Submitted my site to DMOZ. Submitted URLs to Google and Bing, including uploading sitemap.....(did i possibly do this too early?)

    5. Ordered Logo from fiverrr £3.98 (equals $5 xD)

    6. Ordered 5 x articles (1000 words each) from BHW for £29....again covering the Long Tail Keywords and relating keywords i found.

In essence that is what i have done so far. At the moment i am using the ColourMag theme by ThemeGrillz, their demo site is exactly the layout i am looking for, however to fully achieve that i need to purchase their premium theme at $70, which i would prefer not to do as i have bagged some really dam decent themes in the past for $30-$50. If anyone can recommend a similar/better theme for a little bit cheaper that would be awesome!

    Moving forward.....

    - I plan to continue adding articles as my site is an information type site, so i need material to get people interested and to ensure i hit all the keywords i want too! I will probably outsource the majority of this as 1) I am a pretty shit writer, just look at this post 2) i can get lazy/busy at times and lose focus.

    - I have my eye on some SEO packages on BHW, the one i am particularly looking at is $190, which comes highly recommeded to suit my needs as a new site.

    - Need to get a premium WP theme for that crisps professional look.

    - Once my site is hitting around 150 unique visitors a month i will add AdSense, there is also potential i a couple of my articles and planned articles to add affiliate links.

    Purpose of this project;

I dont want to quit my 9-5 job yet, in fact i just got a job as a Business Consultant at one of the top technology firms in the world. What i do want is to make a small passive income and to also benefit from the learning curve.

I am literally a noob and anything i said above may be the completely wrong thing to do. But this is something that is a small project for me to learn. Hopefully my mistakes can help other fellow noobs (i hate the word noob, its such a 'noob' word o_O) to learn from me and/or my mistakes.

    Goal

I would be happy to hit $150/month within 6-8 months in adsense revenue, affiliate wise i have no idea as i still need to do further research etc. Overall $150-$200 a month from this site within 6-8 months will make me happy, anything above and ill do a lap of honour around my local town centre in the nude.

    Total Spent - £43 ($52)

    Income - £0 ($0....in case you were wondering:p)

    Note:
I will update on a bi-weekly basis, no point posting an update every day to tell you that i changed the spacing between two paragraphs for aesthetic purposes :p

In the meantime any ideas, input or questions you want to share just drop me a line.

Take your income to zero-to a few dollars using Instagram..If it's a hot keyword then most likely there are interested IG users and you can get them to your site easily

Not quite two weeks, but thought i would post an update!

The last week and a bit, i have literally just been working on articles, articles and more articles, my main priority has been to get content for my site that targets my main keywords, plus all the associated Long Tail keywords!

    This is what i have done since last update;

    - All though i didnt plan on really having a social presence, i created an instagram page today, which is working out fairly well and its only been 4 hours. I have 57 followers so far and people are really liking my photos related to my niche.

    - I ordered an additional 5 x 1000 word articles from BHW marketplace which i was super impressed with for $75

    - On top of this i have also purchased an SEO package for $189 from the marketplace.

    - Made a few adjustments as advised by the Yoast plugin to my sites, including interlinking a lot of my posts to one another where it is relevant.

For now this is all i am going to spend, as i would like to see some traffic and interaction before i make any further investments. As this is my first proper journey that i have real faith in, i dont mind the money being spent as this is also a learning journey, so there will be failures and there may be some positive outcomes.

After reading a few post on this forum about Adsense, i thought it would be good to think of others means of monetizing my site, rather put all my eggs in the Adsense basket. So i got thinking and i see some real monetization opportunities other than Adsense that my sight can benefit from, both affiliate and Amazon Associates. But the nature of my niche, i will have to think very carefully about how to incorporate these affiliate links and Amazon products without overdoing it, or making it seem out of place. I guess that is the main challenge of any niche site!

I honestly have not done much in terms of attracting visitors to my site as yet, however i noticed i have started getting traffic ranging from 1-20 people a day, all unique. I have no idea how this is possible other than people entering my keyword.com. My SEO package should be complete in about 3 -4 weeks as it is drip fed, to look natural so hopefully i will see positive results from that.

As mentioned previously once i have a steady flow of visitors of around 100+ a day, i will start to incorporate my monetization strategy and hopefully see some results!!

    Moving forward until next update:

    - Articles, articles and more articles - I want to keep content growing on the site, after all the aim of this site is to provide information, so i want plenty of it broken down into sub niches and so forth. Currently i have 11 post on my site a total of 14,000 words.

    - Work on my instagram page and build a large following, monitor this to see if this is working as a means of bringing in traffic.

    - Keep learning from BHW and applying anything i pick up that i believe will be relevant to this project!

Started on this today, so will be interesting to see how this works out traffic wise, now that i have some content on the site!

Thanks guys, i hope to keep up with this thread, will be by no means as good as some of the Journeys that are detailed on this site, but hopefull as i get better and progress through this, i will have worthwhile information to share that can help others just starting out!

    Quick Update

    Finally started making money!!!

Since my last update i have been feeding my site one blog post a day of around 750-1000 words. So i have around 20 post in total, im going to let that sit for a while as i am working on a new 'journey' using some of the things ive learnt from this one so far. I will probably start a thread about that at a later date!

Over the last week my traffic has grown to a stead 28-40 UV a day! I have not a single clue how as i am not ranked in the top 100 for any of my main keywords as yet and my SEO package that i bought on here is not finished as yet. All the traffic is organic, however the analytics and webmaster tools are showing (not provided) under the keywords search to reach my site.

Regardless, the little traffic i have had started to convert on the 4 amazon products i have on my site, ive made $4.08  not much, but to see my first lot of sales roll in gave me a real boost of motivation.

I did apply for AdSense (as originally planned) however its been 6 days and they have not got back to me at all! I think however my focus is going to change from AdSense to Amazon and i also found a couple of good affiliates for companies that sell services in my niche, so im waiting on approval (hopefully), which i will place one of their banners at the top of my site.

    Moving forward:

I think i am going to stop with post for now, i want to see more traffic and little more conversions on my amazon and hopefulyl affiliate to guage how my site is progressing. If i see that my bounce rate remains low, and people are spending time on my site along with clicking through my amazon listings, then i will get some well written articles with a little more in depth research posted.

On the advertisement front, i dont want to swamp my site with advertisement or monetization methods. I know that sounds a little strange for a journey. However the purpose of my site was to learn and also practice SEO and see how different BHW advertised services could help me for future money site projects.

Don't limit yourself to just Adsense, you may work with few networks at one time including Adsense. This will help you to monetize same user/visit with few networks and bring better profit.

    Update...

Thought it was time for another update as traffic has been increasing rapidly, which i honestly did not expect so soon! The site has had around 150 visitors a day +/- 20 visitors. All these visitors have been organic, with only a handful coming in via other means!

Apart from a couple of new articles, I have not done much at all, other than insert some 'call to action' paragraphs and sentences in some of the articles.

On my last update, I was getting impatient with my Adsense account, but it was actually approved a couple of hours after that! In addition to this I signed up to Commision Junction as i found a lot of affiliate programs that would be suitable to my site and audience, and thankfully i did as i have already had 3 sales via CJ!

Here is an update on my earnings since my last update, note CJ and Adsense is GBP:

    Adsense: £4.89
Amazon: $44.12 (Although there are a few sales which are still to be shipped, so this should increase by another $8)
    CJ: £89!

Commision Junction has been excellent for me so far, although i dont want to get too excited as yet in case it was just a fluke getting 3 orders so early.

Ironically, i may actually scrap the adsense ads. I find that with the CJ and Amazon Associates ads on my site already, the adsense is a little too much and for very little return. In addition to this, some of the Adsense ads appeared at random points on my page which i hated and looked very shabby.

Overall i think the site is progressing beautifully, especially as im new to the IM scene, ive done a shit ton of reading of BHW over the years, but never really made any real effort with these Journeys until now.

    Plan looking forward...

I honestly believe in the hands of the right person this site could do so much better! Maybe i am bias towards my own site, but the keywords, content and area it is in is very popular and the affiliate network is high value with good commision rates. If i can get this site to make a steady income of £500+ a month for 3 consecutive months, i will definately look to sell!

I am currently workling on an Amazon Affiliate site as another project, however when i get some time, I will create some more pages related to some of my affiliates industry and see how that goes.
