One of my large sites with more then 15k pages (not going to reveal my niche) has ranked well, its a shopping type kind of a site and google has ranked secondary pages for some of the long tail keywords. I haven't spammed it and only bought quality links, but with the penguin update and having to have only relevant links has caused my site to drop, so now its not ranking for the main keyword that I was targetting nor it ranks on the long tail keywords of the secondary pages.

I've already invested alot in it and wondering if its still worth trying building and getting high pr links on relevant post to build an authority and get my ranking back? Or once its been flagged by google bothering with it ain't worth it? Please shine some light here, its very stressing. Thank you!

If you sure what has happened is due to penguin then try implementing some of the changes people suggest on this forum. If you have 15k unique posts, it's definitely worth trying! You can always copy the posts on put them on a new site and start link-building from scratch if it wouldn't work. Do not 301 the website.

penguin update and having to have only relevant links

What? Where'd you get this info?

Hell yes you should try and revive your site. It's crazy to me how many people are throwing away YEARS of work, simply because Penguin dropped their rankings. Sure it's a lot easier for the rest of us SEO's and creates a ton of opportunity. But, bumps in the road of business HAPPEN, get back up when you get knocked down.

Penguin after all was a n algorithmic update. Meaning there is the ability to bounce back from it. I've seen and helped several people do it.

Chances are you built too many exact match anchor text links. Chances are you had little diversity in the URLs you were backlinking. Chances are your content is way overoptimized. Maybe its one of these factors, maybe its a combination of all of these factors.

Feel free to PM me your domain if you'd like and I'm sure I can give you a few recommendations to save your site.

I know where you are comming from. Spent 2 yrs on a 30 page high competition, high potential niche and got it to page 1 on more than 20 keywords. Along came penguin and tossed the whole thing in the dustbin. Am I giving up? Nope. However, my superpower SEO softwares are now consigned to the dungeon until I discover what happened. Currently palying with social, Web 2.0 and RSS in a big way to see if that will provide the answer. My feeling is that I may just discover the next best thing in my quest to revive 2 years of hard labour. As the saying goes, if one door shuts it doesn't mean that another is not open.

    Start with the basics.....

Most of the time everyone's looking for some super-duper secret as to what pissed off Penguin. When actually it's a combination of everything together that's the cause.

Put on your "Matt Cuntfist" hat for a minute and think about what would piss him off. Then think about how you can fix that.

Am doing exactly that! If anyone should tell you that they know what went on for sure they are Lying or better still trying to fleece you. I have a fewsites with similar SEO treatment prior to penguin...half went down and the otherhalf are behaving like they just had a shot of redbull. Go figure!

I know what I have done, is probably buying and blasting socialbookmarking from the same usernames which has been done all at once, even though I haven't bought more then 20 bookmarks at a time high PR only, but I thinks that the main reason for it, other then that I haven't bought any spam links or anything, just high pr article submission no more then 5 article post at a time and press release distribution, no more then 20 a time.

But I am not sure how can I get my old ranking back and getout of that penilization, I know I'm out to build more links and quality relevant backlinks, but isn't there another way and what concerns me is that its not a sure thing that my site will bounce back, but ofcoarse I'm not giving up on it.
