Hey Hey, My name is Ryan and I have been a part of the forums for several years. I had an old account I asked to be deleted since the username could easily be linked to me and my business. I rather not be found here and just leave it as my first name.

I want to apologize ahead of time for the long initial post and don't blame you if you quit reading at this point. I want to really give a decent amount of my story to understand the real reasons behind this journey thread and why I have set certain goals.

I have been a Freelance Designer Full-time Since Sept. 2009. I was in the hospital with my wife for 9 weeks with our second son do to complications so I could not keep my regular job and be there for her. I started my business on nothing but Faith and have been doing it full-time ever since.

Currently I am making around 3K a month and My bills are around 3k a month so It is pretty tight. My wife has had 4 surgeries this year alone and still not doing that well. I'm not complaining, I am very blessed to be able to work from home and have time with the kids. However my bills seem to be going up and up each month with medical bills and high medicine co-pays. I already currently do mostly all the cleaning, cooking, house maintenance and take care of my wife and 2 boys. 3 & 5.

How my business runs currently. My bread and Butter is branding and Identity. Logo's | Flyers | Business Cards | etc. But I also offer web design although I only do a 1-2 a month. I have one freelancer in the States with me that I send extra leads to that I can't handle and he sends me back 25% after he gets paid. I have a full-time designer from the Philippines that I recently hired a couple months ago for $400 a month. He helps by getting started with some concepts and sending them to me to finish up with the clients. This has helped me become somewhat more passive but I am still doing a lot of the work.

    My Goals ( finally right?)

    Financially:
    A. I will like to hit $8-10K a month. So I can start saving and feeling less stressed hopefully.

Business(es): Because of this demand for my time I am looking to find more opportunities for more of a passive income. My current ideas I will be trying first are below in addition to my main business.

    A. My Graphic Design Business
    1. I want to work less and make more (haha, don't we all) I hope to accomplish this by advertising more and allowing my team to do more work than I allow right now to free me to focus on my other goals. I currently advertise with craigslist mostly and that has brought in 70% of my business for almost 4 years now but it is getting harder and harder to do. So I will be researching and looking for advice on other great ways to advertise. Probably will consider a small budget to test adwords.

    B. Website through Ticket Network
    1. I have a website through ticket network that I hope to advertise and create some income from. I plan to use craigslist some to advertise as well as backpage. So far I had one order that I made $104 off of. I know a guy that made $200K+ last year with ticket network. But he has 15 computers running thousands of dollars worth of software postings 10's of thousands of ads a day and I am just not there yet by any means

    C. A few Personal Websites
    1. I am hoping to monetize a few projects I have had at a stand still for a while. I have a video community and forum in a specific niche that is pr4 and alexa 1m without any fake traffic or anything. I also have a few blogs I want to starting updating regulary and try to monetize.

    D. I am hoping to also find new ideas along that way. If you have any input or ideas for me I would love to hear them.

I hope that this thread can be used as motivation for me as mentioned below and as inspiration to others. I will do my best to update regularly. Goal of twice a week but hopefully more than that!

    Thread Goals:

    1. I hope to update the thread at least twice a week. I could say I will everyday but I think that will be an unrealistic goal.
    2. I hope to add value to others reading and hoping to learn something new or at least generate ideas for something new.
    3. I hope to learn from those following this thread that can add valuable advice and tips
    4. I hope that in the process of updating this thread it will keep me accountable to my goals. Reminding me not to give up and keep pressing on. That seeing the progress made will be an encouragement and when progress seems slow that I can find encouragement still here.

Thanks for the comments and kind words. I have gotten a few payments in today and that feels good. My main advertising method is having some kinks today so I am trying to work that out and that is taking up most of my time today. I hope to create a couple posts on some of my blogs tonight. Will probably be tomorrow before I do anything new to the ticket site.

Wow, it has been a crazy few weeks. Sorry I haven't updated. My family flew to Peurto Rico last minute to see my dying grandfather. My boys and wife has never met him and I have only seen him 3 times. So he paid for everyone to come visit. But I wasn't able to do any work that week. Since I have been back I have had ER trips with my wife passing out and hitting her head, my son going through a thin glass window at church and cutting his hand open and needing stitches. Me having a bad case of bronchitis and ear infection. And some other crazy stuff. Anyways, I have been working on several of my projects slowly. I have been able to increase my cl ads some more after buying a few more pva's. I haven't done much with the ticket site as of late but hope to work on that over the next few days. I got a couple new website projects I am hoping to knock out the next couple weeks that hopefully will help catch me back up on income for the time I lost. I will try to do better to keep this thread updated more regularly. I thought I would start adding motivational quotes as well in my posts to help motivate me and you!

Of course, as soon as I started this journey thread everything went crazy. I went to PR as mentioned and then wife had two more surgeries since then and about to have another on Sept. 3rd.

I hated following journey threads just to see them die. I thought I would be different!

Then, I became what look liked part of those statistics of dieing threads.

An Update on my progress. I will start with the

    C. My Personal Side Sites/Blogs

I have never considered my self a writer.

However in the past 3 months I have written
    - 40+ Articles for Site 1
    - 60+ Articles for Site 2
    - 30+ Articles for Site 3

If you would have told me 4 months ago that in the next 3 months I would have written over 130 articles I would have laughed in your face!

Writing daily has become one of the most instrumental changes in my life.

    - Writing for Site 1 has helped me to reflect on my life and the changes I have been making.

    - Writing for Site 2 has helped clarify my thoughts and find inspiration for my own graphic design business

    - Writing for Site 3 has helped me to think from the perspective of that audience. I have learned a lot of great tips for health and diet in general.

    - Writing Regularly has helped me to be a better writer. I think that writing is a very useful skill to be good at in our digital age.

Although I am still fairly new to writing, I have found it very rewarding. I plan to write regularly for a long time to come!

    Income Wise:
I am making a few dollars day right now from adsense on these 3 sites. Traffic is growing on all three and I am hoping to try to get that up to $100 a day over the 6 months.

    A.
    My Graphic Design Business
Not much has changed in my graphic design business. Everyday is about the same and income is steady.

    B. Website through Ticket Network

I have made a few sales through craigslist marketing and just letting my friends know about the site. If they can find the tickets cheaper then they can help me out at the same time. If they arn't cheaper I tell them not to worry about it. I hope to spend a little more time marketing this soon.

I am sorry I hadn't updated sooner than now. I will see if there is still any interest from the community to follow this journey. If so I will continue to update if not I will let it go ahead and die completely.

I'm interested in the Ticket Network aspect of this journey and, also, you design business. Those are the two that get my thumbs up! Keep it up; post at your own convenience, noone's going to force you to update the thread.

    Ticketnetwork update.

I made a couple new sales including a 1200 dollar sales with a $200 markup. Simply tried a method of responding to wanted ads of people looking for tickets and just sent them links on my site to the tickets they were looking for.

Spent about 30 minutes sending emails to these ads. Since it worked, I am going to try it again and spend a little more time and see if the results come back the same way
