Just wanted to share this. A girl I know has a website, I went to high school with her. It's on arts/crafts and stuff like that. Her site was totally on Blogger. She started doing blog designing for customers. I think she was making $10k+ a month when I first talked to her. She said she was kinda getting away from it as she wanted to take an intern job in the US. Her site had no SEO done what so ever, wasn't targeting any keywords, absolutely nothing. I said you're crazy, you have so much potential here, and you're not even tapping into it. Not to mention she was in the process of moving from blogger to typepad. I'm like get a domain and get away from thirdparty hosting! She said she didn't like wordpress... That was about a year ago. She messaged me a few days back and said she didn't take the job. She said she has hired on 9 designers who are booked solid for the next 3 months, and also a waiting list. Plus one full time customer service person. Again, absolutely no SEO, poor sales page, everything. I told her, "YOU'RE CRAZY!". And to top it off, she didn't redirect or anything from blogger, it was pretty much like starting fresh. Her old site on blogger is a PR4 with thousands of links to it. Most her anchor links coming in are her site name, and absolutely no related keywords. I checked on SEMRUSH, and according to them, she has barely any traffic, because it's all word of mouth. I told her, you have an opportunity here to make a hell of a lot of money and set yourself up for a long time. But she's worried about being too pushy and doesn't want to force anything on her customers. I'm guessing she must be making atleast $20k per month herself, wouldn't be surprised if it was a lot more. I just believe how well she is doing, with really no clue on what she's doing. However, it goes to show a) whitehat is not dead, with dedication and hardwork, you can make anything successful. b) if you pick a niche of something you like, something you have a passion about, you are more than likely going to be successful. Her story is a bit similar to mine. I started a site as a hobby, with zero intentions of making money, and it turned into a business, a very successful business. WHy? Because I loved what I was doing, I was working on my site from after school till I went to bed, 3-4AM on the weekends (this was when I was 16). And I was doing this with no intentions of making money, just that I loved what I was doing. Anyways, just thought I would share because I can't believe how well she's doing with zero SEO.
