A fu** virus/adware is killing me

MoneyMafia,

It's always a VERY good idea to have an image that you can ghost so that these little things don't interupt the day to day business. No matter how badly I might get infected, I can have my shit back in perfect order in about an hour.

Look into symantec ghost. I use 11.0 but any version will do. You'll need a little storage space to put your image on but it's well worth it to get your PC set up right with a clean install, add the things that absolutely must be there for you and then use ghost to make that image. You can then clone your primary drive any time you want with a quickness.

I reload mine about every three months.

yeah thats what i used to get mine back up and running. this to me is the best solution.

Your best bet is to reformat.

THe trojan or virus you might have is probably encrypted and has a unique stub which can make it undectectable for a while.

It's up to you :)

I'm so mad .......GRRRRRRRR
I think I just got a trojan or something that start websites in background.. Minutes ago heard grings in my speakers like I was in a forest ..now I hear error bumps like 50 in a row......... I'm desperate please help me.. Tell me the best antivirus (ESSET Can't find anything :(:(:( ) so I can get rid of the trojan

you might RUN --> MSCONFIG.

and find below "startup" and "BOOT.INI",

you will able to find what cause the trouble, and by using search function, DELETE IT!

ANd then RUN --> REGEDIT.

and find HKcu/sofware/microsoft/windows/currentVersion/Run, and find related program that cause this, and delete.

i had a really fucked up brand new spyware recently. spybot, adaware, nod32 didn't fix it.. malwarebyte found everything and fixed it and restored all the modded files that the spyware did

ps. system restore sucks.. u should have it disabled.. besides, a lot of spyware gets stored in the system restore

if you just restore files from a previous date, the virus might jsut come back, you have to completely restore the default factory files and settings

I would suggest backing up all the files you need on an external drive or different partition and formatting the partition that your os is running on. Then scan those files you transfered to make sure it didn't copy itself. Best way because its probably always gonna be in your system somewhere.

j/w what browser were you using?

problems like that convinced me to switch to linux two years ago. i've been to several web pages that tried to install software on my machine.

fyi, you can have both linux and win on your hdd at the same time. you just choose which one you want to use at bootup. if you don't choose, then win is booted by default.

Try the easy way first assuming it is something an anti-virus program will find. I'm not a techy but I had this problem a few months back and even I could pretty much guess at which files were the renegades. All the various virus scanners found them too but there were always a couple of files that were being used by windows that they couldn't blow away except...

...Avast.

I don't have a link for it but if you do a search it's free. What Avast will do is remember which files those are that windows is using and then blow them away on a reboot before Windows loads.

It's worth a try.

trojanhunter has worked in the past for me. its got a free trial too

What program are you using for the dual boot?

What program are you using for the dual boot?

i used grub to dual boot. but
after a few months i dropped
win95 and went linux 100%.

if you want, you can even put
linux on an external hdd and
dual boot from either internal
or external hdd.

It's funny I was going to post today about this junk. Anyone know of a program that will stop "virtumonde" I got it all the time. I know that it's coming from one of the torrent sites I go to. I found out last time it was come from "hxxp://torrent-finder.com/" I don't know if it was from this site or one of the sites it searches. Any I too, have found it easier to just format and go. I have a box just for download and stuff do I reformat and load xp in about 30 - 45. Does anyone know of a program that will stop this from loading on my computer? Spybot will found it after its there, but I'm looking for something that will stop it from loading.

thanks
mcbigboy
