A friend started a Wordpress.com blog and asked me some questions, and I'd like some more opinions. So basically he's not into it to make money from his blog, he just wants a place to collect the articles that he has written over the years on the net, so it's a personal non-profit blog. He asked me whether he should register a domain, and I said that it's best he does, since the blog with a custom .com domain will look more authoritative in google's (and other search engines) eyes... And it will also look more authoritative in the eyes of people who know websites, like internet marketers... He asked me whether he should use a different site to register his domain or use wordpress.com's option... I asked him about the pricing of wordpress.com, it's $18 a year That sounds rather expensive to me, and I'm thinking of recommending him GoDaddy, it would be much cheaper and GoDaddy is big and reliable on domain names as far as I know... However, could any issues arise for him by buying his domain from a 3rd party provider instead of through wordpress.com's option? Should he skip buying a domain name altogether? You know, since he's not looking to make money with his site? Tell me your opinions about what I've written. Thanks Edit: I'm also worried about him collecting all of his publications on a FREE hosting provider = wordpress.com I mean, he won't be doing any shady or marketing/advertising things, but still, imagine he collects his stuff and one day they delete his blog, since it's free? I worry because it would be a shame, and we all know that free hosting providers - being FREE - can and will delete your blog if they feel like it.. How dangerous is wordpress.com for deleting blog? Is it likely to happen?
