Hey, guys. Been reading and searching threads for a few days now, but just decided to create an account and post. I'm sure you guys get these threads multiple times daily, but I'm having trouble putting this all together. Most of the threads here definitely help put things in perspective, but again, I'm having issues putting it all together to make it work for me. So, I have a few questions that should be fairly straight-forward and easily answered.

    1. I understand FULLY that I will not make enough income to sustain myself without hard work, initial investments, and lots and lots of time. However, if I put in 40+ hours a week, with some general internet/computer knowledge under my belt, how long would it take to get to a comfortable income? Weeks? Months? Years?

    2. Exactly how rare is it to find a niche that actually works and brings in money? Will I have to go through many months of trying different things to finally find one that brings in a profit?

    3. Other than this website, are there any other good sites or resources online that I can look at to give me a detailed guide to getting started? At this moment, I have a hazy idea of what I should be doing, but don't have the names, tools, and specifics to put it in motion.

    4. How long did it take you to make a sizable amount of money (enough to live off of, if that's the case)?

    5. If I wanted to make at least $1500 a month, is there a general guideline of how much money needs to be invested and how much time needs to be invested before I could reach that mark?

    Thanks, everyone!

What do you want to do? Websites, adsense, cpa, seo, or a million other things that can make money online.

I think you should look around the site a bit more. Find out what's available and that catches your attention. Then learn it, do it, and make some money. It's not going to be easy, and its not going to be guaranteed, but if you put in the effort maybe you'll see some results.

Don't forget to give back, once you learn some things.

I was looking into adsense or cpa, however adsense seems like it will require many months of work to gain visitors. I'm getting laid off next week, will probably pick up a job to try to get by while getting this project up and running.

I'm constantly reading threads on the site, but I don't do very well with the explanations geared towards people who are already doing it. I tried this a few years ago when I was younger and just had a few bucks to invest, and it turned out horribly.

I feel like the knowledge I'm gaining online is plateauing since most of the sites I'm visiting require me to buy one of their books after telling me the basics.

I'm not asking for a step-by-step guide to making a million dollars a month with a set niche and set keywords, but I'm looking for the tools I need, the networks I need, and a general idea of what a good niche is and how to find it. Is there such a thing?

A lot of the methods on here take time (adsense and any other method that requires SEO). A lot of the money that can be made quickly, requires certain tools and a decent amount of experience.

This forum has everything you need to make money in it, you just need to put in the effort to pull it out, and most importantly take action.

I'm not entirely sure if this is up your alley, but this is what I did. Watched youtube videos teaching me to build wordpress websites. Found clients in my area that needed sites. Sold them sites, had them pay maintenance, and learned SEO. I then started selling SEO.

My opinion, building and selling websites is a quick way to build a supplemental income; allowing you to work on the long-term strategies in the off time.

After a few full days of researching, I think I've finally got a grasp on what I think I should be doing.

    In the most general explanation:

I find a niche market with little competition and high demand. I create a blog (do I NEED to pay for a domain? Does a free blog site work just as well?), and put 3 - 4 unique, quality articles explaining my niche. Within the blog, I use Google adsense and other affiliate links. After that, I work on SEO by commenting on other blogs (not spam, but actually contribute) with my link attached, and other places where relevant.

Is that the general premise behind affiliate marketing? How many blogs would I need to have set up before I can start making sustainable income? How long do I have to work on my SEO before I start generating enough traffic?

Thanks, guys, loving this site more and more every day. :)

Find a niche. There's threads on that here, or just watch a youtube video.

If you're taking the SEO approach, I recommend buying a domain, preferably a keyword rich .com. Get hosting as well. The domain will be less than $10, and hosting will be $5-10/m. Personally I recommend bluehost, because you can host as many domains as you want on there, and its like $60/yr (you have to pay it all up front though).

SEO takes awhile. Blog commenting doesn't work like it used to, but it still has some effect. You need link variety, not just blog comments. Outsource some content creation, and get those put on in directories. Fiverr.com is great for this. Do some social bookmarking, but be careful with the Blackhat stuff, if you don't know what you're doing.

Someone just posted a wso in the dl section, called "make money in 48 hours" or something along those lines. That teaches you how to set everything up. I'm not sure how well the adwords traffic will convert, but if you have a coupon it's worth trying.

Sustainable income. It can take awhile, I'd expect 4-6 months to be getting consistent traffic. If you're doing adsense, you need a lot of traffic, or a high paying keyword. The number of blogs, and the exact length of time is unpredictable.

I'd personally recommend pushing an affiliate link (redirected through your site), and having adsense on the side and not the main source of income.

And SEO takes awhile. I do SEO for a ton of companies. For a fresh site, expect a few months. Older sites can move around quicker.

I may have rambled a bit, sorry.

Great info! The thing I'm worried about most right now is picking the right niche. I've heard that it really doesn't matter what niche you have, as long as you're creative with it, and I've heard if you don't pick the right niche, you'll never make money. I'm sure a pro who's been doing this for years can make any niche work, but for someone new, is that still the case?

Also, if I do pick the wrong niche, will it take months for me to realize it, since it takes a few months to start getting traffic?
I've been researching a few specific keyphrases, and google pulls up 55,000 results for the keyphrase, with an average page rank of 2. The keyphrase gets 12k hits a month. Is this a good keyphrase/niche to try?
