Ok. I've been working on this all day but I finally figured out how to do my own proxies from start to finish. However I've got a few questions for those out there with more experience. I'm using Charon to test my proxies and I want to get the fastest proxies possible so in my connect options I've set a time out of 3 seconds. This seemed to work better for me than selecing the proxies with low ping or the proxies with a high speed. Am I wrong? Does anyone know a better way?
Also... Hello from Korea, lol. I'm on the server from a korean proxy but I had to refresh 10+ times just to make it here because I kept getting
"Connection Interrupted:
The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading.
The network link was interrupted while negotiating a connection. Please try again."
I've experienced this with a few of the other proxies i've run through. Is this common for you guys too when using your own proxies?
Lastly,
wtf is up with some proxies taking me to webshots.com and leaving me stuck there? Or Durham technical college or the homepage for shanxi china? My guess is that its the proxy owner promoting their own site?
If anyone can answer a question I'll be really grateful. I just followed the method in Apekillapes stickies to get this far and once I understood what I was doing things mostly worked out.
Now to contribute something If you're like me and using vista you can't use proxy firewall and Socks 5. I searched for a while and couldn't find a vista substitute so I'm sticking with HTTP proxies. There's a few ff plugins to look at. Switch Proxy is great if your own firefox 2. It'll work with 3 even though they haven't updated it since 2007 but it will get wanky sometimes. I'm currently experimenting with Foxy Proxy for FF3. It gets the job done but there are so many god damn features its a headache until you sort em out. Still it looks really powerful and I recommend it to anyone with time on their hands.
