Hello,

I'd like to hear your point of view on this.

Is it possible to get a domain.co.uk ranking good in google.com ?

The domain is from 2007 and has about 9000 links. If it's not possible to get ranked in google.com would a permanent 301 redirect transfer the link juice to a new .com domain ?

Thanks.

This is a tricky question.

Officially, as long as your webmaster tools are geo-set to the USA, there should be no reason why you should by "held back" by the tld.

However, I know where your hesitation comes from. I would find it hard to decide what to do in this scenario.

Again, technically with a redirect, you are telling Google the new location of your website, and they usually work fine, but there is always that nagging doubt...

Basically, I don't know the answer, but I can understand your puzzlement.

From within Googles Webmaster Tools I found this ...:

"You can only use this feature for sites with a generic top-level domain, such as .com or .org. Sites with country-coded top-level domains (such as .ie or .co.uk) are already associated with a geographic region,..."

F****! That's what I thought...
Looks like I have to get a new domain and do a 301 redirect on the whole got d*** s***! :(
* not very happy right now *

.co.uk CAN rank on Google.com, I have seen it many times before, however it is harder. How much harder I don't know.

My sites rank in .com but for UK searches! the USA ones are way lower.
You could use a .com and redirect it, provided the keywords are on par with each other.

i agree...but also the country tlds seems to have a preference in the results on the local SE's
