    Hello,

I want to make an authority site where I could sell services.

I want to make a blog too, with quality content written by me.

Here is my question: do I make a blog part inside the authority site, or do I make a blog on a platform like blogger.com or wordpress.com.

    Pro and cons:
    Blog on my site:
    - my blog is mine: it can't be deleted
    - I can customize it

    Blog on wordpress or blogger:
    - I can make backlinks to my authority site
    - I can generate more traffic? (I'm not sure).

    What is your advice?

    Thanks

I recommend you to do the blog on your authority site. This way the content on your site will help with credibility of your services too. People that will buy your services will see that you know your business well by reading some of your high quality content.

Do both, make your main site one that you own, than link to it from blogger and wordpress giving yourself backllinks over time.

    Thanks for your answers.

There is a risk if I do this: my content is both on my authority site and on blogger/wordpress blog. Google would think my content is duplicate content, right? It could hurt my ranking.

I hope your "authority blog" wont be about SEO or internet marketing or anything around these topics, because asking these questions is pre-newbie. Blog on blogger?

You will have to write original content for both sites, but a blogger site doesn't need high quality content like a authority site you own does. You can buy cheap articles for blogger and write your own high quality content for your main site. You can than hammer the blogger site with backlinks which passes link juice to your main site. This is a basic web 2.0 backlinking strategy.

And I hope you don't think of making a career as a psychic.

You know, it's not because you read this interesting forum that you think of becoming the "great-SEO/moneymaking/marketing/...-guru-of-the-century-who-lives-in-a-great-house-with-his-hot-wife-and-his-great-cars".

But, mea culpa, mea maxima culpa: I had forgotten that YOU MUST NOT ASK QUESTIONS ON A FORUM! IT'S BAD!

If you have an advice, I take.

If you don't have an advice ...

    Small EDIT:

Sorry to talk about wordpress and blogger, like it's written in the forum.

It seems that you are a donor with a lot of posts: could you tell to the forum owners that this sentence could mislead the poor newbies (like myself) and get them to talk about blogger, wordpress and co. They should remove it.

That' true: I read a sentence, and I foolishly trust what is written.

Use your own domain, Dilettante, you'll have control over every aspect and will be able to rank it better than any free platform after you get the ball rolling.

To me it is a no brainer.

Years ago one of my first ventures into IM was writing post on Blogger with adsense. I soon realized that it could only become so big and I would never own it. I linked it to domain I bought and it still sends me traffic. I occasionally even throw new content on it. BassTrackerBoats is right and has a very informative inspiring thread about building authority sites. http://www.blackhatworld.com/blackh...te-search-engine-optimization-case-study.html You should read through it. There is better information in that thread than any SEO book I have ever read.

Of course you should have the blog on the same domain and site, this only gives your authority site more authority.

How about make blog as subdomain of main Site and Keep Blog part of your Authority site. It's good way to update site more often.

    Yes.

    Great advice.

Here is a list of what I call advice:
Actually, but I may be wrong because I'm a, how did you say?, "pre-newbie", you are the ONLY people in the thread who didn't give me an advice and who judged me with false premises.

And if you want to know, my site and my blog wouldn't be about SEO (seriously, I couldn't make good SEO even if my life was in stake!), but about writing. And not English writing, but in my native language (yes, I saw you coming: I write bad in English).

To come back to my first question of "pre-newbie": so, a separate blog on wordpress or blogger isn't worth the traffic and would really bring authority to my main site? Understood.

    Thanks

The objective to SEO/IM is to make money without working a 9-to5 and possibly even make more. The problem with IM is it takes two things skills and imagination. You can compare it to a writer who needs the skills to write without grammar mistakes. But it takes more than just knowing grammar to be a writer. It takes trial and error a thousand rejection letters. There is no easy path to a sustainable SEO/IM without the same path. You need to be creative, insightful, a combination of technical knowledge with a gift towards creativity. Without these you will lose or run out of steam and quit.

Arguing with people is time wasted you could be spending toward your objective.

This is a no-brainer. OBVIOUSLY you want to direct traffic to your own site. Ask yourself: do you want to host a party in your house or someone else's, in other words directing all the hot chicks to your house or other people's?
