My name is JD, my partner NvG, One hopes you are all very well and all in splendid health.

After pondering the merits or opposites of joining this merry band, my partner & I decided we would come on in or as the Americans say " go right ahead" and join up.

Hopefully, our colleagues & ourselves may be of some use here.

I didn't even realize "go right ahead" was American nomenclature.

I guess it's safe to bet that most idioms are region specific though. Those type of things don't really translate well.
 
my thoughts exactly. I didn't know that either. haha. Everyday American verbage is probably strange to most countries.
 
Actually, I say that phrase constantly, but never really thought about what it meant until now.

Indeed over this side of the water one would say it's safe to say, it's safe to bet is also an Americanism. :beach2:
 
Hello there, yes indeed when we are writing, we attempt to include flavour as to where the text implies it is from. we say "go right ahead" as something we use around the office when we are talking to Americans, we speak in American accents so as to try to get the flavour right, we do the same for Dutch, French and German, it makes it fun and keeps one focused. Nice to meet you all.
 
The correct way to say the phrase I've italicized on this side of the pond is, "it's a safe bet," or "it's a sure bet." Alternatively, there's, "you bet," or, "you betcha sweet ass." They all mean the same thing. I think you say it over there, "you betcha sweet arse," am I right?
