Currently there is an influx of new black hatters both on BHW and out in the wild. It seems that quite a few of them are downloading and tools and letting them loose, without regard for the efficacy of their use or their targets. I've decided to do a little social service. I'm going to leverage a high PR domain focusing on IM and setup what is known in the network security world as a honeypot. The basic concept is to attempt to actively attract careless individuals, collect loads of information about them, and, in this specific case, embarrass them in front of their peers. In some instances, the honeypot's main purpose is to inform law enforcement, but I don't roll that way.

I should have the new and improved website up, operational, and potentially catching idiots by the end of the day.

How exactly are you planning on 'embarrasing' them?

The big search engines are using honeypots anyway, so you adding one is not going to make a difference to be honest :S

This could be a really good idea.... if instead of targeting noobs you target the fellows that have their own methods that they don't release.

I see how targeting noobs can be useful so you can trap their scripts, but if you attract a seasoned vet into your honeypot who knows what you can learn.

I don't think this is a very good idea since some people i have been talking to are newbies in the IM business. These very same people maybe newbies in IM but they have backgrounds in the most sinister places. Start making fun of these guys and your honeypot will look more like a flowerpot. A black hat in IM isn't the same as a black hat in other circles. If you get my meaning. Not good to turn on your fellows, just because they are lower down the food chain.

not cool man, you were a noob once too. did anyone embarrass you in front of all your friends? i hope they did... you sound like one of those dorks in high school that got beat up every day and now you wanna take revenge on people whose hat isn't as black as yours hoping that one of them was one of the bullies that beat you up.

why on earth would you belittle a new blackhatter? if he ain't doin shit the proper way (or up to your standards), why don't you get off your high horse and help the little fella out?

    Because they don't learn otherwise.

It's better that olden catches them rather than John Q Law. Why do you think eBay cookie stuffing went to shit so quickly? It's because shitty new BHers (as usual) ran off half-cocked and ruined a good method. They need to stop screwing around and start taking their "jobs" more seriously so they don't screw everyone else by broadcasting methods with their Bull in a China Shop antics.

blast away guys! It just means the smart guys have gotta think smarter to keep ahead of the "kindergarten curve". Policing (even BH newbies) is a road to nowhere. It only takes one to spoil it for everyone. So everyone has to think smarter, harder. Its the only way...

In the video games business we used to have to come up with new ways of stopping our games being pirated. The answer i came up with was to "make more games faster". The more games we made, the more market windows we had and the less impact piracy had on our revenue stream.

Its the same here. The answer is to come up a continous flow of innovative ideas in order to make more money faster. That way the newbies won't have such an impact.

Cookie stuffing still works fine for me. My account is still alive, they still paid up.

The problem was too many idiots slapping together bullshit methods to sell to the unwashed masses for a quick buck. I spent my time with a buddy and we developed a very solid system.

I think it's a waste of time to setup a 'honey pot' for shit like that. So you're going to catch a noob comment spammer? A moron using PRWEB? Some asshat spamming with a blog farm? OH NOZ!

The only thing that will really prevent idiots from abusing "methods" would be to not sell the "methods" to them. It's just like email marketing. Every moron and their mother that can slap together a half assed software project sells email software. So now we're inundated with crappy junk mail. Making the programs accessible to the common joe is the root of the problem, not the common joe that buys the hype from "INTERNET MARKETING WIZARD". :D
A bull has more dexterity than the old saying. Don't you watch myth busters? :D
