Hey, this absolutely nothing special, just something that I've fucked up couple of times, and was about to do again so I thought to share this it might up save you some money and stress.

I'm talking about new domain names below, not expired ones. I was thinking that I'm registering NEW domain name that I've just thought of, brainstormed it sort of.

About a year/two ago I bough awesome domain name, put up my usual content on there, did my usual link building and then. Nothing. Absolutely nothing. No movement in rankings, no traffic. I was very confused and like WTF?! It took me a while to figure out what is wrong...

Domain name was registered before and spammed to death. I've forgot to check up whois history as I was registering new domain name, it was my idea I thought, yeah I'm so smart, no one thought of this before. :D Then it happened again, and khm... Again.

Now, whenever I am thinking of NEW domain name, before I purchase it, I make sure it's not been registered ever before. If it's been registered before most of the time I just move on with brainstorming.

Can you imagine stress that I've been trough when I've found out that site is not ranking and all the efforts were wasted because of domain that I was thinking was NEW was actually expired and spammed while the whole time I was thinking it's brand new domain.

TL;DR: When you are brainstorming for new domain names, after you find out that they are available for registration, check whois registrars that domain name might be used before and who knows what it might been trough before you "brainstormed" it.

Strongly agree with this. Learned this the hard way after spending time and money on seo and wondering why not ranking.

Yep. I've fallen in to that trap to. A lovely domain name that had been manually reviewed - $300 later, and a website that won't move for s**t

I've been dealing with this issue, removed 2 domains from blacklist cause they were registered earlier like 10 15 years ago, you can't be penalized for that shit...

Been there myself, bought a site from a seller on here they gave me the keywords, suggested the domain etc...... Clearly they hadn't checked the history.

sure registering a penalized domain hurts

LMAO I thought it was just me doing this sometimes... o_O

I know how this feels... I've spent like a few hours, bought a name. Thought it was awesome. Like what a genius I am! :D
Decided to look it up after I bought it... And ouuuuchhh.

History of a domain that I'm talking about can be found with a simple query to whois.sc and you'll find if domain has been ever registered before.

Agree with this. Seeing it way too often, especially with EMDs. Due diligence is in order. Always.

I was one click away yesterday for doing a same thing as described above and I thought of it and I've saved myself of lot of stress effort and money lost. So just a quick reminder to everyone - before you think how awesome domain is that you've just picked (even if it's new, not expired domain), do yourself a solid and check up on domains history. It might be registered before and might be spammed to death.
