Happy Sunday Guys!

This is in addition to my previous post A Beginner's Guide to Lead Prospecting and Outreach for Promoting Web Design and SEO Services.

As always, I am not associated with any of the tools mentioned below. You are free to try yours.

Sending cold emails? Even before thinking of so, you need to do ONE thing. Which, if not done properly, can sabotage your whole cold email campaign! Yes. That is Email List Cleaning. And how you do that? By using readily available tools. But hey, email list cleaning tools are pricey too. So how can you keep your cost minimum while cleaning your list? Let's find out.

STEP 1: Initial Manual Cleanup
Even before uploading your csv file containing the list of emails to the tool of your choice, we need to manually remove some of the entries. This will help us to minimize our cost. For example, we need to filter out emails like [email protected], [email protected], [email protected]. Many times, actual business owners don't receive these emails which hamper our actual purpose. There are spam traps too. And not to forget, the catch-all emails. So if you have got a list of 1K emails after scraping through YP, we need to remove the unwanted ones.
Go ahead and remove the unwanted entries from your list by applying some simple filters in Excel.

Next, if you are promoting ONLY web design services, I will make your life little bit easier. In this case, your aim is to find those businesses that don't have a website yet. That means they will only have free email addresses like Gmail and Hotmail. If you want to get a list of such entries only, below is another list of excel filters:
@gmail.com
@hotmail.com
@live.com
@msn.com
@outlook.com
@aol.com
@yahoo.com
@ymail.com
@me.com
@icloud.com
@apple.com
@att.net
@verizon.com

STEP 2: Automate Your Cleanup Using Tools
Now, it is time to remove non-existing emails from your list of manually filtered emails. In order to do so, you can use some automated tools that will make your life easier. There are many available in the market. Some are pricey, but give you satisfactory results. Some are priced bit cheap, but give you mediocre results.

My favorite is myemailverifier.com. This one will charge you 399 bucks for cleaning up 1M email addresses. You just need to upload your list of emails and the tool will do the rest. You can comeback after 30 minutes or one hour and your list of thousands of emails will be now cleaned and ready for you.

"Email List Validation" on AppSumo is a good deal too. It costs $59 - one time. This will give you 1 Million credits per year. I haven't tried it myself, though.

Other email list verification services:
  1. https://www.qeinbox.com/free-email-list-verification ---(free)
  2. https://breadcrumbs.io/email-verification/#/ ---(free up to a limit)
  3. https://hunter.io/email-verifier ---(free up to a limit)
  4. https://captainverify.com/mail-tester.html ---(free up to a limit)
  5. https://www.verifyemailaddress.org/ ---(free)
  6. https://www.zerobounce.net/ ---(paid)
  7. https://clearout.io/ ---(paid)
  8. https://debounce.io/ ---(paid)

I have sent emails to [email protected] before and I was able to communicate with the owner or the manager.

My cold email is usually a short question thats related to the service that Im offering.

Nice guide, thanks for sharing.

What do you mean by a "spam trap"? Just an unattended email and the worst thing that can happen is they don't read it or an email where they will mark anything that comes to it as spam and you'll be blacklisted or something?

Also, is there a problem with sending lots of emails to people if they ignore or delete them? The only problem is if they mark it as spam? Or if a low percentage of your emails are opened or replied to, that can trigger spam filters too so should be avoided?

This module of python seems to do the job.

Library: verify-email

verify-email can verify any email address by efficiently checking the domain name and pinging the handler to verify its existence

Thanks for the Email List Validation (Appsumo) tip. I've been looking for tools to verify large amounts and wasn't able to get anything at a decent price.

I thought self-hosted was the way to go (atomic email verifier, Scrapebox Premium Email Scraper), but I get over 50% unknowns... (most likely because of my lousy VPS setup, not the tools).

Despite the terrible reviews in AppSumo, I just verified 80k emails and compared the results with Snov.io (which has very decent cloud email verification) and I'm impressed. I'll keep using the tool in the next days and will come back here to edit if I change my mind about it.

Thanks for your insights. This is something I missed in my previous emailing campaign.
