Basically I registered a domain with a growing (which is an extremely popular/saturated niche today) youtube niche in the name a long time ago out of boredom....not really having much foresight or experience.

I made no landing pages, it lands right onto a forum hosted and built with vbulletin. When I first started the forum, it was actually fairly active (I had recruited several cheap SEO services on BHW to rank for key words), most likely because the niche was not nearly as saturated and easier to rank in. However, due to other things in life, I had started to neglect the forum and it became overran by spammers and eventually died out. Well, I almost forgot I still had it until I realized I'd been paying for hosting and the domain for over half a decade! lol. So I rebuilt the forum 2 months ago and decided to keep on top of things and keep the spambots away. Only thing is, the niche is now so saturated and the world of online forums has become superseded by reddit subs. :(

I still get occasional traffic, and traffic tools say I'm averaging between 20-40 unique visits each day recently, but barely anyone posts. I assume that's due to my lack of ranking for the main keyword. I only rank #1 for the 'keyword + forum' term.

Trying to help by also creating a youtube channel of the same name and linking my content directly to the forum.

So now I'm at a crossroads. I think my site is fundamentally flawed because 'forum' is in the actual domain name itself. Would it be beneficial to create a separate splash page with text articles and perhaps featured youtube links to have a shot at ranking for the term?

Or am I fighting a losing battle? Could be too little, too late. I don't even know how much (or little) this site would be worth today if I sold it as-is. I've been out the loop. But if it's worth investing in/building I'm all for it. I just don't know where to start.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

@ninjacookies if you have something like sexdollforums.com you can sell sex dolls, dildos and vibrators. You may also have informational articles on kamasutra. It is still relevant. If you didn't get hit by penalties because of low quality links built in the past then go ahead. Your site has a lot of age, maybe do some strong guest posts to the home page and start writing content.
