Very nice article. Im sure a lot of that can be applied as a whitehat SEO strategy as well?

great post. I dont plan to start RM in next future, but I'm just curious.
I always search in G for "company name" + scam or reviews.
It is obvious that with those kws you will land on some negative pages.
Do you try to rank your registered profiles for those "negative keywords" too?
Or how do you deal with them?

Those are just additional keywords so you would target them just as if you are targeting money keywords with regular white hat SEO. You will typically need a lot of good content as Google has a propensity to show specific sites when you use phrases with a negative connotation. Knowing which site Google will show before seeing the results and how to defeat that site is the difference between pushing a negative down in 3 weeks or 3 months.

Hey Ghost, most good press release companies have syndication built in. If you don't have syndication available, you're probably using a low quality service or a low-level package from the PR company. I personally like PRWeb (Premium, $369 each) and PRNewswire (iReach Premium $299 each).

BHopkins, it has been about a year and a half since the original blog post - excellent, btw!

On PR and Social Signals, you commented that their effectiveness may change - PR down, and Signals up.

Any changes in your assessment on their effectiveness?

Still a good question that I don't know if I can answer. We do SOME social signals, but I don't think I've ever seen conclusive evidence that they always play a role. If you're trying to spend a specific budget, I still think it's often better spent elsewhere unless you're generating real social signals.

Oh, and regarding press releases, sometimes they still rank well for ORM. I don't know how much value their links have as most places syndicate hundreds of PR's per day. I currently use MarketWired for all of my releases.
