A single +1 from an authoritative Google+ account can propel a brand new site to a top 10 ranking with no other promotional activity involved, as long as the site being promoted is in the same niche as the Google+ account

IMHO Litecoins have more chances to survive than Google+.
I would rather invest my time there.

It might help the ranking in the near future, but as a long term strategy its a waste of time.

I thought there were supposed to be eight reasons?

Does a single authoritative reason about Google+ qualify as eight?

(just joking around, before anybody gets all worked up)

They are completely different things. However, I just turned 200$ into 3851$ on btc-e, while Google+ didnt bring me a single $.

I don't think Google will let it die.

Its already dying IMHO, or at least stagnating. Check Google trends for "google plus", its as flat as witch's tit.
Google can present as much statistics about new sign-ups as it wants, but all they do is force you to join when you create a new acc on Youtube for example. Most of the people are not even aware they have an account in Google plus.

I wonder how many people on Google+ even use their real name. I don't use my real name on my YouTube account.

Good point but the eight reasons are in the article for what it's worth:

    1) Google+ has an immediate impact on SEO results
    2) Google Authorship creates a win-win situation for both parties involved
    3) Authorship Has Contributor Limits
    4) Google Authorship Alone Does Not Appear to be a Ranking Factor
    5) Yahoo Scrapes Public Google+ Data
    6) SEO Analysis Tools Will Need to Adjust
    7) Use Google Author Stats
    8) New Sites Can Rank Quickly with Google+ and Retain Rankings

That said I am not one for drinking the Google Kool-Air at least not without some hesitation. And they will after all shut down projects, as they did with Google Reader recently, if it doesn't get traction in the marketplace.
