I have some guys from http://www.gogosocial.co.uk/ phoning me selling me a service, I may go ahead as they are offering a free trial, I have a call scheduled with them later.

They say 7,500 tweets mentioning your website gets you to page 1 in google. This makes me laugh as I will ask; 'For which keywords specifically?'.

Anyway here is some research explaining this claim; http://www.branded3.com/tweets-vs-rankings.

What do you guys make of this research?

Tweet does affect ranking, but firstly that isn't permanent and more importantly, it is hard to speculate the number of tweet that gets you to the top...

That study is almost an year old. Tweets/retweets were popular back then.

Well, they're still good for a site's ranking but 7500 retweets alone won't take you to the #1 spot (for a decent keyword).

Another point i would like to add to this is the rumor of Google's new Zebra update that might be coming soon. I think, the webmasters who use excessive tweets ( including me unfortunately) are going to face big problem! So I am staying away from mass tweeting after hearing this to be on the safe side.

if ten people do 7500 tweets for the same 1 keyword.. would they (the ten) get top1? i dont think so.. maybe it can.. but lookd the competitor first

Be wary of anybody telling you any service will get you to number 1. Charlatans!

I read a case study here on BHW for that. It did rank the site but it was temporary. I think the site tanked after some time for most of the keywords.

This only applies for real tweets. Fake tweets do not help you to rank at all. The reason why a site can rank in Google with thousands of tweets is because they are real. These tweets actually gets visitors to click on them and visit your site.
