I have a small review based site in the fitness niche. The entire site is targeting only the product.

The review was written extremely well and is converting nicely. However, the targeted keyword is not very competitive and therefore the search traffic for that product is extremely low. I am getting about 500 visitors per month.

I feel there is a lot of potential for more sales if I can drive more buyer plausible traffic to my review page.

Due to the fact its a fitness product, and therefore in the fitness niche, all longtail buyer intent keywords would be extremely competitive. ie "how to build muscle, best way to gain muscle, etc:"

I simply want to add a ton of relatable fitness/health related articles to get more traffic to the site.

    Problems I see are:

    1) Site is ranking well atm for its terms, and I do not feel like doing excessively competitive SEO to rank for new article keyword health terms. It just would not be worth it, and far too much competition.

    2) Therefore, only hope for new article traffic would be LSI terms as fitness is too competitive, which could bring the wrong type of customers (information query and not buyers)

Does anyone have any experience scaling a site up from puny to authorative in the fitness/health niche? If this was any other niche it would be an easy choice.

Do some social bookmarking and backlinking. It will help you a lot.

I'm assuming that the homepage is also the sales page?

If so you pretty much stuck as expanding such a site would be rather odd.

Though additional "fitness traffic" type visitors could result in more sales, it is likely that it would be very untargeted traffic and it would be like throwing a whole bunch of shit at a wall and hoping something sticks. Add to that you could mess up your already decently earning site if you don't know what you're doing in terms of SEO.

Just keep it as a small earner on the side and go build another site.

For me when I build a site in the beginning I determine whether or not it's gonna be a tiny micro-niche site or large authority site. For the most part in your situation it is very difficult if not impossible to expand such a site especially if it is entirely around some sort of product.

Yeah like the others said do social bookmarking.
Maybe try making something like the old "blog wheel," but a little different

You understood my thread EXACTLY how I presented it.

I know what I'm doing via SEO, but as I/you said fitness keywords are too competitive and its not worth the SEO involved when traffic might not even be buyers aka shit against the wall.

It just seems a shame because the site pretty much earns 0.75 cents per visitor. I actually made $200 the first month and only had 200 visitors.

What would social bookmarking do? Does that actually drive any real traffic?

What do you guys think about a twitter account? And just following people in a similar position, tweeting site, might drive a few more sales?

One thing you could try is Adwords / Bing targeting competing/similar products - for example, the search "[similar product] review / discount / buy" could be targeted with an ad like "don't buy [similar product] until you read this" and rewrite your review slightly for each product you target to show yours is the better solution, perhaps throwing in comparison tables or something.

The reason is, you know your review converts (so it isn't hugely risky) and you have nice traction in organic search (which might help you get a good QS and lower CPC). I don't think you can do that in the US with Adwords (target brand names) but if it's an international offer you should be good in many countries.

And if you target heaps of low-searched similar products (without many competing ads) you could see a really nice ROI. I would also go on odigger or wherever and check out some (non-US) CPS offers for similar products. Then target their brand name with the ads (because CPA affiliates will be generating search traffic for you to snatch up). Also, maybe get your review translated for more markets.

Otherwise, you may as well let it sit and use the passive income for other projects like advised above.
