here is a list of websites that have high traffic, but without much content or pages:

    1)LMGTFY dtkom*

is a website used on forums tofamiliarize people with google search short for: (Let Me Google That For You)

    2)akinator dtkom*

Think of any famous person and the akinator will guess who they are

    3)RainyMood dtkom *

a website that has the sound of rain to help visitors relax.

    4)OnlineClock dtneet *

a website that tells you what time is it

    5)CalenderDate dtkom *

a website that tells you todays date

websites like these do not need updates, members or posts/photos/articles..etc
what these websites have in common are that they are all one paged and go viral fast, and all of them are below 100,000 Alexa Ranking so thats enough traffic to be making alot of money from placed ads on their homepage.

the owners of these websites got the idea, created the website, it went viral, and everything else was done for them.

I would appreciate it if you shared websites that are similar to these on this thread I would like to explore more (one paged websites).

'Aware' raises a really good point. All you need is a concept. You could outsource the actual coding, and the individual sites would never need any regular updates. Things like this go viral very fast as a result of people sharing them on FB. Once they do, the monetization options are wide & varied.

Just because the site has high traffic and virtually no maintenance, in my mind isnt a good thing. people use lmgtfy for a specific reason.

does the site make any money off of the searches? if not then its just running up bandwidth costs for the owner.

Obviously the idea is that a certain percentage of users will click the ad at the bottom, so as with anything else it's just a matter of weighing up the likelihood of paid clicks or CPA earnings or whatever, vs the running costs.

The difference is that 'utility' sites like LMGTFY are likely to get regular repeat traffic in a way that MOST affiliate sites won't (unless they're very well constructed and have regular updates.

What baffles me is that "highfive" site which someone posted earlier. There's NO monetization on that whatsoever. That's just plain daft.

sounds so simple. so is it? i could think of hundreds of ideas, but i guess it's a matter of it catching on and going viral.

I guess it's a numbers game, Cornkernel. Throw up 20 of those ideas, and if just ONE of them goes viral, you're laughing.

Even if you choose not to develop the other 19 sites any further, they can always be flipped for a modest profit too.
