These are some of the mistakes that i made on ebay when i was a newbies.

Back in 2002/2003, i was a young boy with passion to make extra income online in addition to my monthly salary!

The problem is that i have passion with little or no wisdom!

1. Tried to promote my ebay listing's outside ebay i.e via adwords

2. Struggle to accept other forms of payment beside the official payment system.

3.I always withdrew all fund from my paypal account whenever any sales is generated on ebay.

4. Being rude and late response to dispute.

5. Not taking into consideration ebay and paypal fee's before listing item's

Note; the last one is as important as the first one.

Yes about the last one i see if you are in europe the fee will be bigger than what you see normal on other ebay discusion as the europe add vat to fee also :( . I found when i try to sell something im in a disadvantage because of the vat on the fees

So what is the location of your ebay account? However, there is always a workaround in regards to ebay/paypal fee's.

Note; there are fee's associated with inactive sellers account on ebay. Their aim is to discourage non-consistent users from selling on the platform.

Starting on ebay trying to sell pokemon cards, so thanks for the advice.

Why is #3 a mistake?

yeah #3 can hurt because paypal/ebay like to see some balance and activity that looks stable. If every sale comes in and you instantly drain it, then refund/dispute comes and account has no buffer... easy way to get holds or limitations, especially on newer seller accs.

I usually leave enough inside to cover refunds, shipping issues, fee surprises etc. Not forever, just dont make the account look like a hit and run. Also with ads outside ebay, it can work but only if margin is fat. Sending paid traffic to a single ebay listing is brutal if fees + vat + returns not already calculated.

The VAT thing catches a lot of EU sellers off guard. One thing that helped me was registering the account location strategically... if you got the option, a non-VAT region changes the math completely on lower margin items. Wont work for everyone depending on where you actually ship from but worth looking into.

On #3 @Rankings Daily nailed why it matters. I'd add that the holds usually hit hardest in first 90 days, after you build some history paypal loosens up a bit. Early on tho leave a cushion.

Curious about your workaround for the fees @Finaltouch, you talking about something specific or just structuring listings smarter?

They are too quick to ban on there. I am banned for life on that platform. And I'd rather not make such accounts to compensate. Like stealth accounts.

Note: a few correction;

3.I always withdraw all fund from my paypal account whenever any sales is generated on ebay.

CTRwizard7, thats for your comment in regards #3 tips.

I know is unprofessional to do this in business. I donot spend time calculating ebay/paypal fee's bcos is quite frustrating.

I normally decide price of my products in such a way that it will cover-up the cost of the product and ALL related expenses ( ebay fee, shipping cost in case of indication of free shipment ....) i know there are lot of tools for calculating such fee's but, i've never used any of those tool.

Sometimes, i just wrap up some bonus package in addition to the main product in order to prevent most customers from buying similar product at a cheaper rate from my competitors.

Bundling bonuses is a decent way to keep margins high @Finaltouch but it doesn't really solve the fee percentage issue if you are selling from Europe. The VAT on eBay fees is a silent killer for EU accounts... I had this issue a while back when trying to scale some electronics. The only real workaround that actually moves the needle is registering a US LLC or UK LTD to get those non-VAT fee structures. It sounds like a hassle but once you get a wise or mercury account linked, it saves you a solid chunk on the backend fees. Just have to make sure your IP setup is clean if you go that route otherwise eBay flags the mismatch instantly.
