What # member fan page would you consider equally good to a 5,000 member group for marketing purposes assuming you don't SPAM the fan page like crazy with updates.

    50,000?

It's quality over number in most cases.

The things you have to worry about with fan pages are the times people will see your status updates, the number of status updates flying down their feed (generally there's a strong correlation between this and the number of friends they have) and the type of feed your fans are using. For instance, live feed is more real-time while news feed is more valuable if you can acquire some serious 'likes' and comments.

That being said, a group with 5k members will send a message to those 5k people that can be read at any time.

As far as actual practical stuff goes, I've found that I will get maybe 3000 hits within 24 hours of sending a message on a link vs. 3000 hits in about four days with a fan page that has 30k fans.

It's simple, pretty much along the lines with Jekashi. Groups are worth more when they are smaller in size but once you hit the mark where you can no longer mass mail with groups than they are pretty much worthless.

Personally I see much higher click throughs on my Fan Pages than what Jekashi is getting though.

Let me rephrase the question... if somebody offered you a group in your targeted niche with 5K members that can be messaged/emailed.... what size fan page would it take for you to consider them of equal marketing value?

I think this is a crazy statement!

I have tons of groups with 5000 members or less and I have only ever messaged twice, i had a fairly good response, but one of the groups was then shut down. If you spam you run the risk of getting it closed down.

When it comes to you saying that groups over 5000 are worthless, I think your out of your mind.

I had a large farmville group for a long time and it was bringing in a few sales every day, and tons of sales for a cheap farmville bot. I had a ton of very large mafia wars groups for a long time and they brought in sales every day. I still have a few and make about $100 a week off them, they have been going for over 6 months now and without fail they bring in sales.

When it comes to niche groups I feel the same way. If you have the largest group for a key word you will always get traffic. I get about 1000 clicks a day from about 25 small niche groups. don't forget that most of the people that come to the group wont join, so the number of members you have is really irrelavent as long as you have the biggest group.

Its very hard to get to the top for farmville and mafia wars because there is so much competition, and unless you have hundreds of thousands of friends or a good lie to spin, you have little chance of catching up.

Niche groups are the way to go. I'm launching 2-3 a day with the accounts I have at the moment and they are normally ranked number 1 within a day or two.

groups are valuable to me since i need to make events.

people dont neccessarily click into the event when it is made from a fanpage..
