So I started this whole shopify + aliexpress dropshipping thing, which turned out to be a whole disaster. I thought it was a good way, because I've read much about it and people said that traffic is the main issue, which I thought I've covered with 500k+ IG followers, on several accounts. I did also talk to different people, I did ads before and they told me, that their shops are doing pretty well, though they doesn't even had an audience in the beginning and did just spend money on promos.

So yeah. I'm not new to websites and stuff, tho I'm not an expert. With the help of shopify, I thought I've set up my online shop pretty well and decent. I've chossen a unique name for my brand, made an fitting logo and added 7 products to my shop, which I researched seriously. As far as good.

Now that I was set up pretty well, atleast I was thinking like that, I started to promote my shop abit on Instagram. I put the link in some of my accounts and did simple promotions on the stories. The results out of this were below zero, which already gave me a little bad feeling, but I thought this could have been because Stories are just not strong for promotion.

So after some playing around, it was time for me to do some ads on my pages. I took a product, I thought it would work pretty well on all 3 pages. It was a ring for women, themed as to be fitting for all pages. Even the price was in a good range, not too high. (12.99$) The picture for the ad wasnt just the simple product, I did also add a fitting background and made it look good. (atleast I was thinking like that) I added a caption to the ad, saying like they can get this ring on the page, free worldwide shipping, link in the bio. I put the link in the bio of the pages, not the landing page, the direct link to the product.

I posted the ad on three of my pages. 155k, niche as same as the product, 89k, niche almost as same as the product, 180k, niche fitting, because 63%+ female followers. I uploaded the ads at the same time, with the same picture, same caption, same link in bio and the linked ig profile of my brand. I did also post at a good time. After 12 hours, the ad on the 155k page had 1,6k likes, on the 180k it had also 1,6k likes and on the 89k page it had 600 likes. I thought it worked out pretty well, because other ads I did, gained like 1,7k likes after 24 hours.

With a bad feeling, I was carrying the whole time, I woke up to 0 sales. Besides the bad gut feeling, I'm still a bit paralyzed by those numbers. I mean.. I did ads on pages with an overall follower base of 424k+.. That's a fucking huge amount. Besides that, all the accounts were growing organically, without fakes or bots and all 3 have a very good engagement... And what I'm thinking about right now is, that either IG just sucks to promote stuff like that, or it's me. Because the thing is, I just had 32 clicks on the link to the product, i put into the bio of the 3 accounts. Thats so insanely low.

Right now I'm asking myself several of questions. Maybe somebody with experience can write here or message me via PM, so that I can show the page and products to them etc, because I'm not that well known to marketing, more to growing IG accounts.

    • Is the name of my brand bad? It's a 7 word name, comparable to versace
    • Is my website bad? Too simple? Too boring?
    • Are the products bad? Was the product bad, I was promoting?
    • Did the product have a wrong pricing, too high, too low? It was a ring for 12.99$
    • Did I added too less informations to the product?
    • Did the 0 feedbacks for the product scare the customers?
    • Was the ad bad, I posted on the 3 pages?
    • Was the caption bad I added?
    • Why did I get so less clicks on the link, even if it was in the bio? Maybe because of the product, nobody was interested?
    • Ig is just bad for promoting, sad truth?
    • Jewelry is just a bad niche for IG users?

So I guess some people may be interested in answers too. Right now I need someone with experience, who can quckily go over my page and tell me where the problem is. I can't find it. I was calculating with atleast 10+ sales.. Because think about if I've bought the ads on other pages.. It would have been over 200$ to spend and the results woulve been 0 sales. Thats crazy. And I can't really imagine that the reason was just a bad product.. I mean 0 sales out of freaking 400k+ followers!! I'm extremely sceptical about IG after that experience...

If you want to succeed you have 3 alternative Paid advert only on Google trough Adwords, second is Sale Funnels and 3-th is SEO ranking.SEO ranking is best and cheaper than Sale Funnels. If you interested in last two i can work it for you.

You have to think how much value and call to action you add to your ads,I can't really help you without looking on your products/shop/ads since i can't address the content properly

    1. Try different Product (like bracelets for example).
    2. How is your IG pages engagement ? I mean how many likes per picture ?
    3. How much traffic do you get to your website from IG (without using ads) ?
    4. People love positive feedback, before buying something.
    5. Nah jewelry is a great niche for IG users.
    6. As a newbie, you can see from other jewelry related IG profiles, what kind of items they are promoting. This is what I would do :) just do some research from your competitors about trending jewelry items and so on.

Like you said this is insanely low....

Is the country you're targetting compatible with the payment methods at shopify?

Do you have shopping cart abandonment numbers?? Are people putting the items into the cart but not going through?

I think that the product sucks. That's the reason for 32 clicks. In 32 clicks you should get a sale, so definitely check your shop for issues. Try to order the product yourself.

    Test, and test some more.

I know it seems illogical, but stuff like this happens all of the time. We can't all be great!

I think you need to see how engaged your followers actually are.

One of the classic ways - and how I do it - is to ask them to subscribe to a FREE related eZine. Now you have their email and name. Then push the offers through that.

If you cannot get them to sign up to something relevant for free you will have no chance of making a sale and so you will know just how many/few of your followers are actually engaged.

    1. I do have different products. Bracelets, rings and necklaces. I just took the ring for the ad pictures, because I thought it would work out.
    2. The 155k page has 10k+ likes on every picture, the 89k page 6k+ and the 180k idk because its a video page
    3. Not much. The website is new and I dont had the link in the bio for a long time, as it did also lower the enagement.
    4. Reply to this point below the quotes
    5. I guess it depends on the product?
    6. I did. The whole idea comes from a product, that was doing good on other pages. Only the product I promoted wasnt on a page before, thats why i picked it and I thought it was going to work out.

I cant post the whole numbers, because my own clicks are a big part, as I tried things out. But there were 64 refs von IG, 33 clicked on the product ad link, 16 on the frontpage. Those are the numbers from yesterday, till today.

6 or 7 added to cart. I added the CC payment option 2 hours after the ad, I forgot to add it. Therefore i was just offering paypal. Could be it.

So as I was quoting the replies, I checked shopify and got my first sale, lol. The fun part is, its not the product I was promoting on IG. It was a bracelet and it was bought 4 times from the same person. It's kinda funny, because it was the only product that had a feedback, plus I just posted it on my shop IG page with 300 followers. The buyer got to the product via the frontpage, so I somehow sold it besides the ad.

With this in mind, do you think it was the product? Right now I'm pretty sure that it has to be the product..

You should try instilling a sense of urgency in your instagram post..

For example, "we are happy to partner with XYZ for an exclusive discount. $12.99 (UP $25) to the 1st 50 users"

Promote the bracelet using your accounts now. That should work. How about getting shouts to your Store from large fashion pages?
Giveaway discount codes and what not. Also, do try the Free+Shipping with that ring. Price it at $0 but charge $10 or so for shipping. I've seen a lot of people make money with such products while doing F+Shipping.

I would try what someone said before, creating the urge "50 firsts will have the discount " and with the new Bracelet. If it works, try without the Bracelet and after try without the "50 first get..." to see what really worked. If it didn't work, do the same, because maybe the "50 firsts ..." don't get people to buy because they'll think they're late.
