i considered doing 301 on all 404 errors good thing because it saves link juice.

but some page analysers show its actually an error.. also, even if we have 404, if we have menu on top, link juice will flow correctly anyway.

    what you think

It is better to create a custom 404 page as it shows google you care about your site. Redirecting ALL 404 to the homepage (it is fine if you redirect to a similar page) is mostly bad for Seo.

I second the recommendation of building a custom 404 page. You can put a link in that page so that users naturally click it to go back to the home page.

404 not found pages or broken pages aren’t good for any blog or website because It gives bad user experience and It also affects badly in search engine rankings. You can 301 Redirect the link to the most relevant post/article or category otherwise manually de-index such pages from the web index using the webmaster removal tool or Use a custom 404 page to spice up your page.

oh lol so its actually dangerous. Ill keep just one 301 per article and will make a 404 with links for the rest. thanks

Some consider it "dangerous" but it isn't really. It is just a complete waste of a link.

One thing I will suggest is using wildcard 301's to redirect all category pages to the category page.

For example if you had a domain which is domain.com/videos/(random-parameter), lets say there is plenty of 404 video pages with backlinks, you can use:

    Code:
    Redirect 301 /videos/* /videos
Rebuild the page with quality content and you can salvage some of that juice from experience.

aren't all 301 pages considered "soft 301" if they are offline? because my old pages which i did 301 from are removed. only redirection there. should i bring the content back?

404 are bad, especially if they have juice. So I do 301 on all of them if I can help it. It makes sense for the user.

Do you want to look at 404 when you a. Land straight into the equivalent page?
