humm not in a short period of time i think
but if it's going on for some days it could be a problem for seo

the team has to go for a firewall and if spammer don't get blocked then ban them all from ip
but its only a question of how much pc are involved in this attack.

ddos only block the server temporaly

In my experience, you may see G's crawl rate drop considerably, and possibly your # of pages indexed. Once the site returns to normal, there will be some delay but G should continue crawling at the previous pace. As for SERP, I can't say I've seen any long term impact from temporary downtime.

Its ok.. as long as the attack stops.. google understands that sites go down all the time. As long as they come back up within a reasonable amount of time you will be ok. I have had sites down for 5 days and still get back to position 1 when they have come back up. Problem is the income that is lost in that time can't be recooped :(

How many sites do some of you have on a dedicated server? I back mine up, but have around 60 sites on it. Is that too many? I figure I can just use the back up if anything happens and would rather not spend more on another dedicated server I don't know the amount of sites you can put on a server though that's recommended.

You should be fine. Its happened to me before several times and it has never resulted in lower SERPS, so long as it isn't down much longer. Overall I've never had a problem with sites down less than 48 hours.

You should be fine. I had websites that have been down for 3 days straight and the rankings were not harmed.

I have over 50 sites on one server but I have 10 ip's and 5 nameservers allocated to that server. Enough variance in this setup for google not to notice I even interlink alot of these blogs but very carefully.

If I was you, I would go to Webmaster tools and set the crawl rate to the minimum. So the chances that Google Bot crawling the sites will be low.

I have had sites down for some 12 hours, which resulted in some de indexation and rank drop.

Thanks for the reply everyone. So everything is back up and running... My Google analytics seem to have taken a little hit, but not to bad.

The thing that concerns me is I'm part of the eBay Partner Network, and have ebay ads on most of my sites. My clicks per day were around 100 and today its at 1. Apparently when the server guys raised the firewall, they banned the ebay IPs for displaying products. So I had them unban it, and im still not getting any clicks recorded.

I hope this shit ends soon.

My sites were attacked this week by a DDOS attack. I moved from a shared host to a dedicated host under guidance from my hosting company. I realize now that all they were doing was protecting themselves and their clients because my sites were attacked again.

They were back up for just 1 hour and then they were attacked again. They were down for 3 days, back up for 2 hours and attacked again and went down for 5 days.

They have now been back up for 3 days so fingers crossed...

I hate the fuckers that have done this. Although I lost income,my rankings have stayed as they were before the attacks. All in all, my sites were down for 9 days.

My hosting company were and are,a pile of shit and didnt help me one bit. I now have 3 reseller accounts on shared hosting and 2 dedicated servers costing me £300 a month. Previously I had one reseller account costing me £10 a month but I cant afford not to have a contingency plan/backup.

My advice, get a hosting company that will work with you and communicate with you constantly throughout this time.

Yeah i have a pretty awesome hosting company so they worked with me through the whole thing, adjusting the firewall and a bunch of other bs. I would recommend them but I don't want to get banned.
