I've actually tried that service with a test site that I used to control and it seemed to work a little, but the links that were coming in were completely unrelated. I think it will probably end up being penalized in the long run.

I have personally used it on my WH sites, and its very good on getting your site to some good PR and ranking if you select low-medium competition keywords. They key is your keywords research.
Wont work on BH sites. Each sites are reviewed by staff.

3waylinks is awesome for ranking in Google. Unless google finds a way to identify sites in the network (which there is no way I know of) or if they start discount the value of off-theme links then I don't see it going away anytime soon. Worth $47/month esp. if you have a lot of sites

There is actually automated link something that cost only $3 per month, and does pretty much the same thing..
