3D Video on YT

I haven't seen this mentioned in the forum before, so I thought I'd ask. Has anyone been toying with the new 3D video feature available on YouTube? For those unaware, you now have the option to convert your uploaded videos to 3D. Not sure how well it works. I tested this by asking YT to convert one of mine and...well...nothing happened. It's still in Beta, so maybe it's not an active feature yet?

Of course, once I saw this option, my wheels started turning thinking of ways to monetize this. Think of all of the cool videos you could "make 3D" with this feature! Live concerts, videos of rollercoaster rides (I dunno, I'm just riffing here)...the options are endless if it works/looks cool.

What are your thoughts, BHW? Anybody working with it? Do you think users will utilize it?

I highly doubt that there is a tool that would actually take your regular video and turn it into a 3d video as those are filmed with special cameras and they are just two different technologies.

I would tend to think that it is more a tool that - if you filmed with 3d cameras, it converts the format to something playable on 3d screens / tvs

You cant just transform stuff like that - unless...YT iz da magician

Yeah! I thought the same thing. But, browsing the YT forums seems to indicate that their "tool" does, in fact, work. At least, some users have been satisfied with the results. After further investigation, there are several free tools online that can do the same thing. I can link them if anyone is interested but a simple Google search for "convert 2D to 3D" should do the trick. Not sure if you can download the videos from those sites, though, to upload to YT.

My thought is to download existing videos from YT and then convert them to 3D and upload them to my accounts. I wonder if you'd get flagged for uploading existing content or if it would be considered "new" because of the conversion?

Also, as an aside (and, yes I know it's not allowed on YT) but two words...3D PORN!!!

I can't seem to get the YT tool to work. I don't know if I'm doing something wrong, if it just takes forever to convert (you would think it would say "3D Pending" or something like that in your account), or if it's just broke. So, I can't really test it to see how well it works. Hmmmm.....

However it is still an interesting concept.
I suggest you test it out with a fake account with a proxie - perhaps with a really popular video or something - that way it would easily get flagged (take less time to find out)

This looks like a very promising idea. But ... am I wrong ? or you need a monitor that's above 120Hz to view 3D clips.

Well.. there is a free 3D converter tool that I use and it works like a charm. See it here http://www.dvdvideosoft.com/guides/free-3d-video-maker.htm and best of all.. its free.

Dude...market that to webcam girls via sites like MFC. Convince enough girls to offer it in their shows and you'll make a killing (they all follow the leader there; if one offers something, all of the others feel like they have to offer it too).

Sorry. Don't know why I immediately go to porn when thinking 3D. I swear I have other ideas. But, you should do that!

Sorry for the slow reply. Got busy with the holidays and some other projects and haven't been to BHW in several weeks. I have not yet tried it but this reminds me to give it a shot. I'll play with it in the next few days and post any results. I'm also curious if anyone has played with this concept since the OP?

btw - I did buy a few 3D porn domains just for the hell of it! lol. They may just end up in the closet with a bunch of other "that's-another-thing-I'll-never-actually-do" domains that I have...but who knows?!

Seriously it is, Porn sites showed thumbnail preview while scrolling through the video for years, and just now YouTube is BETA TESTING this feature.

Welcome back Padlock , been checkin gthis thread since.

I did not give this a shot I am busy workin another YT project with testing out getting accounts monetized easily.

will possibly give a try to all of this once my tests are done

im thinking if you slice 1 frame off, and do 3d offline before you upload - YT wont tell the diff.
